For me the most profitable niches have always been in the...

...industrial services and equipment sector.

Yes. I am spilling the beans on this one.

I have made more money by content marketing around industrial products and services than any other niche/sector.

My advice to my fellow Warriors is this: If you are in MMO, drop it like a hot potato...that's not where the money is.

As some of you may or may not know, I am not an IMer. I have a day job and I go to work each and every day.

I actually like my job. I work as an "industrial scientist" for the layman.

Some of the people I work with in industry are under tremendous amounts of pressure to "get the job done".

This is not a "get into MMO and leave your day job comment"...I am pointing out a business opportunity.

In almost all cases and each and every day, I watch people in my company and other related companies work under pressure and buy products and services to "get the job done".

Here is the secret: Many of them shop online for the products and services they need to complete their job. Many are spending corporate money.

When they find a website that they think can provide them with the product or service they need, they whip out their credit cards faster than a Samurai on the battle field simply because they are under pressure.

Industrial corporations spend major $$$ online by way of personal corporate credit cards. Its not the money of the employee, so they don't mind spending it.

Sure, industrial products may seems as uninteresting and as dry as burnt toast, but there is major cash flow in this arena.

There is exponentially more money here than in say the SEO niche...at least in my experience.

So I say...give it a try...write a great article about an industrial product and publish it with your affiliate link in it.

If you don't have a website that you can publish it on, I'll publish it and rank it (even with an affiliate link). See my sig. I don't care.

Go for it!

What sort of industrial products are you talking about? I took a look at your site and it seems like the articles there cover pretty much everything under the sun.

You name it. For example...one of the common instruments that I and fellow chemists use is a gas chromatograph.

Tons of techs in the chemical industry use gas chromatographs and they break all of the time.

I haven't personally searched for chromatography related products yet, but there are probably companies that have chromatography related products for affiliates. I am sure Amazon probably has some...as a matter of fact...

Thermo Scientific TraceGOLD TG-5MS AMINE GC...Thermo Scientific TraceGOLD TG-5MS AMINE GC...
      ...there you go.

As in all niches, you will have to compete with some major players, but I'm just saying...I know the mentality of the people purchasing these products...I work with them.

Also, the site in my sig isn't a good example, but now that you mention it, my Google Adsense numbers for this site do show more clicks for industrial related products.

      MMO is the lowest earner.

Amazon has a huge array of products in this sector. Check out the industrial/scientific department and AmazonSupply.com. Buyers of these products often place large quantity orders and many are regular, repeat buyers.

Yeah. But the real $$$ will be in private JVs with companies that don't even have affiliate programs.

You just have to show them what's really possible.

I work for an fortune 300 company based in the US and their internet presence absolutely sucks and gets schooled regularly by little mom and pop sites.

I once bought a keyword based domain name to see if I could outrank them for their key search term...took about two weeks with a one page website with one paragraph on it.

I think the biggest delay was just in getting it indexed.

It all depends on what you are doing in that niche. For example, the creators of Senuke X are definately earning way too more than a guy with an average blog in niche of fat loss (although it is the darling niche when it comes to demand. Always was and always will be, believe me). So it all depends on how you will approaching that niche, as a Product Seller, as an Affiliate, as a blogger or you name it.
Its making sense now, isnt it?

Some of the prices on Amazon for products in the sector are crazy, one machine I just saw was $18,000.

EDIT: There's stuff on there for $70k.

As the OP inferred, these are actually low pricepoints for industrial/corporate capital purchases, and content marketing can be an effective method for reaching buyers in this market range.

Yeah. There is a lot of untapped territory here...the key is writing for technical people..that is why many don't attempt it, but the secret is, many of the people aren't all that technical...and they definitely aren't technical when it comes to IM methodologies.

I have seen this first hand. Now many of my co-workers come to me and ask if a website looks "legit" because they know that I am into IM. LOL. How funny is that? But the only reason they know to ask is because I told them and they know about TheBitBot.Com and ask me about it.

Our senior chemist will buy from any website that has a buy button on it as long as it has what he's looking for and he is not one to perform price comparisons.

Example. Look for thebitbot.com in this search:

heating value light ends - Google Search

Yeah. That's right, I'm ranking right up there with the IEA...at least for today...LOL!

I didn't even try to rank that article. I just wrote it and it happened.

Of course, I carefully horde trust rank with this site too...as a way to give contributors the best rankings possible. Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't.

Search results are very volatile these days, so if you can, get your content published on high-end sites Alexa Smith style.

Amazon does have Industrial products selling for over $500,000 - obviously not volume sellers and make sure that they actually pay a commission on these before promoting (Amazon has some products excluded from commissions).

When visiting Amazon, in the various sub-categories, toggle the top right hand corner switch to Highest to Lowest prices e.g.

Amazon industrial product prices seem to be a little overpriced, don't you think? I don't how about you, but for me a box of screws for $446,468.43 is way too expensive.

Actually, I would never promote any extremely high priced product online.

I have found that for super high priced items, people DO NOT buy from niche sites.

When I refer to industrial products and services in this thread, I am generally referring to maintenance items such as the GC column that I pointed to in an earlier post.

It is not uncommon for a GC column to go for $1000 USD, so at the lowest Amazon commission rate possible, you still make $40 USD if they buy it through your link.

The key to all of this, of course, is getting the click...that's the real challenge.

Sniper sites used to be great for this, now authority sites seem to have the edge...that is why one of my fundamental SEO/SEM/IM beliefs is...niche sites should all be launched with a view to ultimately turning them into authority sites...but that's just my opinion following the "very volatile" SEO environment of 2012 which is almost behind us.

Use content marketing techniques that don't rely on Google.

For example. If your in the specialty gases or welding niche, you could try to get published on a site like "Spec Gas Report".

These guys have been in business for years and aren't worried about Google AT ALL and already have a loyal HIGHLY TARGETED readership...

Google can't tell you what to do with your site Rob, you can put affiliate links on it if you like and even sites with affiliate links rank. If you don't want to play with Google there's a hundred and one other traffic sources out there to get people to your site.

Personally I think every niche is a profitable niche. And really it's not about the niche at all but about the products in those niches.

Every niche has bad products and good products. The trick is finding those good products.

Is it? It certainly isn't where most of the buying customers would be, though. Not mine, anyway, if my experience in multiple other niches is anything to go on: in all my niches, search engine traffic stays less time on my sites, views fewer pages, opts in less often and buys far less often than traffic from any other sources I've ever tried, over the years.

I admit I do get floods of Google traffic, but I'd still hate to have to make a living from it.

You might be far better off producing quality content and having it syndicated to places where your targeted traffic already goes.

You would think that they would go to their preferred supplier exclusively, but I watch people in my company buy products from niche sites.

But I will say this much...IMO the toughest part about marketing industrial products if finding affiliate programs...many industrial products companies just aren't that familiar with the concept, so in many cases, you have to introduce them to it.

Ideally, build lists of visitors to your niche site. By promoting through email and other points of contact, the 24 hour cookie on Amazon becomes a non-issue.

Industrial producers are slowly catching on to this fact. I know this because my corporate email address has slowly been filling up with industry newsletters over the past 36 months...but it is by no means tapped out in my opinion. I think there is plenty of low hanging fruit in industrial products...especially if you can talk shop talk.
