Accessing emails outside of hostgator ctrl panel

I am hosting a website for a business on my hostgator account and I have set up the email noel@landsurveyors.ie Is there any way I can give the business access to there emails without them going into my account/ control panel?

I know you can forward it to another email address but they need to be able to send emails from the same address noel@landsurveyors.ie

Also its very awkward to access them in the control panel compared to the likes of gmail

    1. You can let them login to webmail at this address:
    http://landsurveyors.ie/webmail

Their username is the email address and the password is the password you selected when you created the email account for them. This is similar to logging into Hotmail or Gmail to access your email.

    2. You can let them add the email address to an email program such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird and they can then send and receive emails through that. The settings for this are available in your cPanel next to the email address you created -- POP3 settings they are called.

For more details on setting it up this way, see this page:
    http://support.hostgator.com/article...rogram-plesk-9

Or watch the tutorial videos here:
    http://www.hostgator.com/tutorials.shtml#email_clients

They are basically your only two options.

Gmail also offers an easy way to do this, open up your settings and go to "accounts and imports", click on the add pop 3 mail and fill in the details of your hostgator account. Go into your email account in control panel and click the "configure email settings" this is on the little arrow on the right, fill in them details in gmail and you now have them forwarded to your gmail. You can also send emails from gmail under the name of the email in control panel, Eg lee@warriorforum.com.

    OK thanks, that's working.

I re-done a website for a business on a sub-domain and then transfered it over to the main domain and I have now lost the email history. They currently use the email info@landsurveyors and I am setting this up again. Since I transfered the files over they can't access the way they usually would. Would there be any way to access the old email account?

Would previous designer still be able to access them?

Alternatively, how could I explain to the business that I lost all of their emails?

I don't think emails would be lost, unless you deleted the subdomain / email accounts. Check it from cPanel and see if mailbox exists.

POP3 is defnitely one option for you, but Google Apps or something similar would be even better. Unfortunately GApps is no more free, still it is worth the money if you do not need too many accounts. Better spam control, GUI and zero headaches.

Everything that WillR said is correct...

    There is one more option...

Google Business Apps - for $5 a month they can have their webmail hosted by Gmail. So it will still have their branded domain - but all the nice features and spam filtering of Gmail.

I used "webmail" for over a year and got to the point where I hated checking my email and even hired someone to do it for me...

Then I found Google Apps and now I love checking my email and I can even have it show up on my smart phone which is great when I'm traveling around playing poker I can still take care of any customer concerns almost as easily as sending a text...

    Somethings Google does right

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Coby

The professional way is for your client to install the e-mail account on their computer, in their mail client program.

Making a client go to Webmail or GMail or Yahoo etc. is very unprofessional unless they are away from their office and they should be able to receive and send from their mail client Outlook/Oulook Express etc. with the use of POP3 and SMTP. All they need is the e-mail address and password to set it up on their computer and they have all their emails stored at hand.

I use my iPad and iPhone for all of my emails associated with my hostgator account. I never check emial on my computer anymore. Good to know that there are other methods if I ever need to.

btw the server settings for my iPad for hostgator are:
    mail.domainname.com
    For both incoming and outgoing.

Yes, those settings would apply to any email client prog. I set some of my clients up so that they can access their email from their phone, pad/tablet and desktop/laptop and set it to leave a copy on the server, so accessing from a phone still leaves the original on the server for download to a desktop/laptop for storage.
