Building an Email List for Amazon Based Sites

Hey everyone,

So I have a site that I just made my first 100 on (because of Christmas, most likely), and I am looking to amp up the profits. I will start focusing on SEO and backlinking to boost Google traffic, but I was thinking about trying to build a list. However, my site's revenue is from Amazon. And, in my niche, there are virtually no information products out there to promote via email. So, is building a list worth my time?

(I am in the camping niche).

IMO, building a list within any marketable niche is a continuity investment that can yield returns for years. People do tend to buy repeatedly from those whom they trust and have demonstrated a credible presence. Consider offering free reports of expanded topics from your blog, or "exclusive" (high perceived value) guides.

    Bound to be, I'd say.

Especially with a defined niche like "camping".

It's a way of keeping people returning to your site (which comparatively few will otherwise do, as you can see from your analytics?) and making repeated sales to the same customers - which is where a lot of the money is, in affiliate marketing.

I'd try to produce some sort of "free report"/"guide" closely related to camping, which offers people some valuable and relevant information in exchange for their email address. Otherwise I strongly suspect you'll be chasing only the minority of the potential income from your site, at the expense of the majority of it.

Also, there might suddenly be a highly suitable "info-product" in a few months' time (you never know) and you'll kick yourself for having lost all your traffic, if you can't contact them.

Yes, but make sure the free thing is very high quality, because you want to give a good first impression or it will not work out for you. Authority is most important part when building a list.

Building a list to let the people know if there are future special discounts on the products that you are promoting would help get people to come back to check out your site again!! Make more money from the same people over and over again

I often build lists from my Amazon sites but you can never tell what will work until you try it. For camping one thing that comes to mind is to post review of a few camping gadgets and then start a newsletter where you update subscribers on the latest gadgets. IWOOT/camping-gadgets-tools has a load of camping gadgets and they have an affiliate program. I think it's a British site but I'm sure you could find similar products at Amazon as well.

Definitely worth it. Compile a report those in your niche will want, give it away in exchange for their email address. Send them some useful content about camping (tips, techniques, strategies, best camping spots or whatever campers are interested in) every so often. Whenever you update your site be sure to mail your list and let them know to get repeat traffic. Every so often promote products they may find useful that you recommend.
