I Asked My List & They Said YES!

Hey Warriors

Without the use of technology I wanted to start adding little viral factors to follow up sequences that would help me grow my social network following and ultimately grow my opt in list.

So I simply added a number of requests to my follow up sequence ... not brain surgery I know, but guess what it has worked like a dream.

In the mix of my follow up I ask my subscribers to;
  • Like my Facebook page and share it
  • Follow me on Twitter and reTweet me
  • Share a link to a specific offer
  • Subscribe to my YouTube account and share videos on their Social Media pages
I think it is working so well because I have a great rapport with my list. I also use a bit of subtle pressure by sending them something of value, following up with a 'how did you like the bonus' email then following up a few days later with a would you be able to help me today ... at this point I ask them to do one of the items listed above.

The effect is viral in that they share my links which in turn adds people to my responder list who then go through the same process.

As I say not brain surgery or rocket science but it definitely works.

You have to turn your subscribers into 'RAVING FANS' not a 'LIST' or 'CUSTOMERS' ... they will buy if they love you anyway

If you can pull it off, and it looks like you have, then it's a great way to grow your social media base. However, if not done correctly, can look like you're any other internet guy asking for likes, follows, and subs.

      I have to agree.

Also, doing this can come accross as needy; but like you said, you have great rapport with your list. That's really what allowed you to see some success doing this.

Great job. I don't know for sure, but I surmise that you've got a good relationship with your list and you're providing them with useful information which is a great place to be.

  • Great job. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas as well. And I quite agree that we should create recurring fans, not visitors or customers. We want them to recurringly visit our website, read our blogs, watch our videos, or buy our product. The key is to build a great relationship. Listen to what they have to say.

    I do this also...

When I send out a video to my list I will tell them to be sure to tweet and +1 it or I will put a link to my YouTube channel so they can subscribe.

Unfortunately I didn't start doing it as soon as I should have - but it's working for me as I get at least a handful of likes, tweets and +1's from the blog posts and videos I send.

I don't do this in every email though - maybe once every week or two. Just to mix things up.

Since I'm a "list builder" I was slow to join in the "social media" as I wanted to stay focused, now it's a great way to reach your market and broaden your audience and even though I still don't spend much time on it - the extra exposure never hurts

    Cheers,
    Coby

What you will find even better than ASKING people to share your page is TELLING people to share your page. Don't make it a question, make it a command.

The guys at Empower Network do this very well. They don't ask you to share things or ask you to do this or that, they tell you to do everything almost in a way that it is just assumed you are going to do it. It's much more powerful.

    Example #1 (Asking)

    1. Did you like this video? If so, would you mind clicking on the Facebook button below it and share it with your friends?

    Example #2 (Assumed)

    2. Ok, so you loved this video right? I know you want to share it with your friends so I put a Facebook button beneath the video to make things easier for you. Just click on that button now and it will be posted to your wall for your closest friends to see. Go and do it right now.

Excellent tip! I always knew having a call to action was very important - but the way you go about doing it, might be just as important

Will, this is a great way to put the pitch assertively without sounding pushy.

I am guessing you recommend the second one more than the first one. Am I right?
