Is It Possibe To Purchase E-Mail Lists?

Hey everyone,

I have an offline client who is interested in sending out a gift certificate that I recently created for him to a large amount of people; however, his own e-mail list is very small.

Is there any way to purchase e-mail lists?

Or would I just have to initiate JVs with other businesses?

Thanks!

Justin

I just went through this with a client.

Yes, it's possible to pay for email lists, from just about any list broker. Just Google the term "list broker" or "mailing lists" and you'll get lots of options. Some will even give you a handful of email addresses for free. My client got 500, before asking my input on it, and decided to test the list. So yeah, you can get them, but there's a problem...

You have no idea where the names came from, what they signed up for (if anything), what types of offers they're looking for or how responsive the list will be. You'll have ZERO relationship with such a list, which makes it incredibly difficult unless you have a killer offer that appeals to the masses. You also don't know how good the deliverability will be for such a list...will people even get your email in the first place or will it go into the SPAM folder?

I understand the issue with your client having a small list...same thing on my end with my client. I'd suggest JV'ing with other business owners that have lists, which is what we're going to do. But that's a whole other challenge because so many business owners don't understand the value of having a list in the first place. But that's a topic for another thread.

    Hope that helps,

Assuming he is trying to reach people with in his industry you may already have potential list brokers.

If he has signed up for anything relating to his business/industry he has probably received all kinds of email from people that have bought a list to target his industry.

I get "junk" emails all the time. Some of them are actually quite useful. But at the bottom of theses emails it asks if you are interested in reaching "x" amount of people in the industry.

        Just a thought.

        Thanks
        Matt

    Thanks for the info, guys.

Yeah, I advised him not to go the e-mail list route because the people receiving the e-mails wouldn't be targeted.
