How would you market this?

I want to start a website design business, aimed at people who are not tech savvy, and struggle with Wordpress etc. They just sign up to hosting through my affiliate link, and I build a site for free.
I would rather not market offline, but will if that's the only way, as so far online promotion just isn't working. Any suggestions on how to promote my site?

Mostly on my Twitter account, Youtube comments, a couple of posts here and some Magic Submitter runs. Getting 5 - 10 visits a day, but not necessarily targeted visitors.

I would first look for a micro niche, do your research, for example, new sellers on ebay, people with rooms to let, gardeners, plumbers etc etc, all will have a large number of potential clients who have no idea how to produce a website, they also may have limited cash, or do not want to spend much money on a new website until they see it getting results.

Make sure your site is a good example, make sure you have your metadata set, if you are offering link building services then you need to lead by example, if your site only as 25 external links then its not a good example to your potential clients.

Also think ahead, at this stage your clients are going to be total newbies, but think about the potential for further business, build a list, people who have no experience of the business they can generate from a website now, will be more open to spend money later when they see the advantages of their site and its generated them some income.

Make sure you give value for money, building client trust leads to a successful business, selling them products or services that doesnt bring them results will lead to distrust and disaster.

I'd start in forums that focus on newbies to internet marketing and just get chatting away and spread your signature everywhere.

You need to go and be where all the newbies who have not yet started are - well established forums that focus on newbies as well as blogs and comment or even better, you should guest blog.

Your strategy is not going to be a normal one, you need to hone it in very closely to a specific niche and area.

If you can, try and spend some time just improving your site like have a 'About Us' page, privacy and disclaimer pages. Maybe have a side bar with categories, tag cloud etc. Make them want to read the rest of your page and add more graphics. Just my honest opinion.

I suggest you promote it on classified ads.
Most people just browse there ready to buy.

If you can come-out with free design website while they must click and order your hosting affiliate link,I am sure most people don't hesitate to grab your offer.

  • How about if you try and find your target audience, instead of you waiting for your target audience to come? Visit new blogs, talk to them, ask them about your services, and have yourself a nice little referral. Keep up with trends on Social Media as well, you'll never know what's new, hip and trendy.

Oh yeah, by asking on Warrior Forum, you're on the right track. Keep it up!

I love this idea of finding your target audience. Another way to find them is to use ezines, also known as newsletters. Do some research and find out which ezines have people reading them who would love a free website.

You can find a collection of a wide variety of ezines at www.directoryofezines.com.
When you find the ezines that have your buyers, buy solo ads in each ezine that tell readers how they can get a free website to kick start 2013 on a high.

Send people who click on the ad to a squeeze page where you can collect their names and emails. This way you now have their emails and can market to them over and over again.

Based on your knowledge of your market, the issues they struggle with and so on, send them emails regularly that demonstrate your expertise.

You could send them emails that reveal things like, "the ingredients of a profitable website", "10 things your website must have to make it trustworthy", "3 deadly mistakes that will cause people to NEVER buy from your website", etc.

Show them you know what you are talking about over a period of time through email marketing.

I think you will start getting some sales this way. Remember giving before you get is a very good idea.

That's the best way, I believe, to build a real business.

      All the best

There are many ways you can do that. Just create a secondary blog and get it on top for like "is setting up wordpress difficult" etc, and there you promote own website as well. Just my 2 cents.

To start I think you might clean up your site. It's almost impossible to read the title in the header because it's set against conflicting images. Not exactly encouraging seeing a site designer with a poor design for his own site. Good luck.

      This. Exactly.

Sorry to sound so negative, but so many people are providing this sort of service (and some of them providing quite a bit more than you, and in far more professional-looking ways), that you simply have to "look good" to attract people. Part of your header is almost unreadable. You must surely see that from my perspective as a potential customer, that hardly inspires confidence in someone offering to put up a website for me?!

I also think "cheap" is a very undesirable word to use at the start of the start of a url and business name: it's really replete with negative connotations.

      Good luck!

I was trying an idea very much like this a little while back. I've mostly given up now. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I think it is very hard to find clients for this online. If you can promote it offline it may work.

You might want to improve your site first before marketing it.
Its really hard to read and visitors might not know what
    you are offering.

Here are some of the few changes you can apply to your website...

    1) Make website width smaller

    2) Make compelling headline graphics

    3) One Call-to-Action

First since you're a web designer you have to make sure you have a good looking and attractive site.

with such free offer you're providing many webmasters will try out your service.

IM forums is one the best places to advertise web design service since almost every marketer needs a website to promote his business

don't rely on one promotion methods, the more money you make the more you spend on advertising.

consider video and social media marketing. you'll find lot's of clients
