Brilliant Marketing Coup - How To Revive Your Local Economy!
Does it need more infrastructure?
Does it want to put itself on the map?
A small village in Turkey has just done all that by brilliant marketing.
For absolutely no valid reason, Sirince (near the ancient city of Ephesus) has told the world it is the only place to survive the end of the world today. And people bought into it.
It also helped that someone (I wonder who?) started a rumour that spread throughout the Twittersphere about Tom Cruise being there today.
Even if no Armageddon Tourists turn up, the local economy has benefited from the presence of 1,500 officials drafted in by the provincial government plus hundreds of journalists wondering around looking for something to report on.
Not to mention the new car parks and helicopter pad (courtesy of the government).
Şirince, Bugarach ready for Armaggedon
So, can your town come up with some event that, even if the tourists don't come, you'll get state infrastructure funding plus a load of expense account visitors?
