What's the most effective way to present your OTO?

Hey guys, I'm just starting to use OTO's. I just set up my first couple of them last night. I shot a thank you video, talked about the OTO in the video and posted a link to the sales page of the OTO below the video.

But I wondered if it would be better to have the option to buy right there on the thank-you page. My thinking for sending the traffic to the link is that the sales page might do a better job of selling it than I could do on the thank you page.

What says the professionals here?

Selling from the thank you page is your best option. At that
point the prospect is already in a mood to purchase and
you are more likely to make the extra sale.

The less steps the better, because less work they have to do to buy the better. I would recommend FE - OTO- THANK YOU PAGE

  • First off, it has to be something of VALUE..

Of MUCH BETTER value than that of what they just bought -

AND of a much cheaper COST of what they just bought.

It's counter intuitive to think so, but it will almost guarantee an upsell!

    Higher value, cheaper cost.

Exactly. That part I learned just from hanging out here. I have Christmas specials going on right now on all my products, so I made new pay pal buttons for them and changed a little of the wording. That's what I'm sending people to now.

I know you guys are on point though regarding fewer steps. That's exactly what I was feeling when I set it up last night. So I guess the best thing to do is create a special sales page with the discounted rate that I use exclusively for the thank you page?

Have the next offer on the thank you page with no links to exit out of the offer. Let the customer know this page is not accessible again and this offer really will expire if action is not taken immediately.

    Thanks everyone!

in my opinion you're best off putting your oto on your thankyou page

this is what i do and have been doing it this way for 2 years and it works well for me

the more steps you include before someone see's your oto the lower your conversions will generally be

Awesome question and good answers. I am currently learning the process right now. These techniques will help me in the long run.

If you have warmed up the reader about the OTO in your first sales page, then the thank you page would be the best option, IMO.

Venkateshk, I'm not sure I understand. I wouldn't be talking about the OTO in the original product's sale page, would I?

For example, I have a 6 month vocal training course. On the Thank You page I want to promote a 45 minute training video on how to do Ad-libs. A good OTO because it relates to the main product. But my sales page for the course wouldn't be talking about the OTO, would it?

I agree with the thank you page, just make sure the OTO will enhance the front end offer. I have seen so many OTO's that really do not have anything to do with the front end itself.

And dont have a long video that you cannot stop or fast forward. I almost through my computer out the window the other day listening to this guy ramble on about the OTO, and didnt show the download links to my product until after it was over.

Good point. That's something I really have to watch. What do you guys suggest for video length?

You also can remember those that don't buy OTO using email marketing from time to time.

    Another tip on OTO.
    - Make sure your OTO will add value to main product.
    - Not too expensive.
    - Limit your OTO copy so people will find it exclusive.

Counter to popular opinion I've actually had more success with NOT having the OTO on the thank you page and instead having a link to it for people to check out, I think a lot of people ignore OTOs because it's quite sales like but if you subtlety suggest they check something out without any sales like pressure they often will.

You'll only know if you test it.

I'm so glad you posted that RockingLastsForever! That was exactly the way I was thinking when I went that route. I wanted to suggest it to them "while they're waiting on the e-mail" and not do a hard sell. I've seen it done both ways and somehow appreciated this method more. Seemed like less of a pitch.

As you said, testing is the key. That's another skill on my list to learn, lol! I got another sale of my newest product yesterday and I'm not sure where it came from. I'm only doing a couple of things so it isn't too hard to narrow down, but I need to really understand tracking and spit testing better. Another subject for another thread.

Right after someone buys is the best time to make some more money by offering them an upsell..

It's like when you buy the Bluray player for $119 and the lady at the register says "Do you want a 2 yr protection plan for this bluray player for only $39?"

After they buy your low-priced product they should immediately be directed to an OTO, they shouldn't have to click on a link to go to the sales page because you're requiring them to jump through an additional hoop to buy your product. For that reason, you should immediately offer an upsell to buyers and if they buy your upsell you should think about offering an additional upsell.

You should go on Clickbank and see what the big-time vendors are doing with their sales funnel. Anyone with a high gravity score will have multiple upsells/downsells most likely

In my experience in terms of the OTO what works well is something that will ENHANCE the product they have just bought. Something that they may not have considered purchasing on the front end.

For instance a DVD and video version of the product and you could sell it for more.

Because they are already in the buying mode this can work well.

A good place time to offer the OTO is straight after the initial sale and then you could also offer it on the TY page as well but then it wouldn't be a "one time offer".

I think the absolute key is to come up with something that's closely related to and makes logical sense to add to the initial purchase. I see a lot of OTO's that go off in another direction. Those probably don't convert very well in most cases. You have to get into the mind of the buyer. They just bought something from you... hit them with something that's along exactly the same lines but that is a truly amazing deal.

And I concur with others who say to show them this OTO with as few extra hoops to jump through as possible. The Thank You page or email confirmation page if you're adding them to your list and using confirmation.

For my OTOs I tend to try and sell another of my own products but I've noticed a few marketers will auto-direct me to a Clickbank sales page on a completely different website (i.e. a product not owned by them), how do people feel about that? Anyone have good experience with that working?
