Ok, I´m excited! Put up a little book 2 days ago, and did two sales already. I know... nothing, but still. Feels good.

I had the system in place since a year ago for a previous version of the book, which was free. So I just changed the links. I had a couple of thousand downloads of that ebook.

      And I have a community.

I asked them to get it free during the promotional days that will set up. But a couple just jumped in and bought it. It is just 99 cents.

There is even one review. The guy is a member of the community and a good friend. He bought one.

      Nope.

I have a book through Create Space; uploaded the doc to kindle and didn´t like the end result, so I let it sit there for... a couple of years (!)

Well done Sandra! It is a nice feeling to have other people read, and buy, your books. I will buy a copy and read it on my Kindle and leave a review as I have been interested in empaths for a long time.

I have five fiction books on Kindle at the moment and they are doing okay. Pretty good actually - and I have made more money from Kindle than any other IM endeavour I have done.

    Well done!

Yep. More or less. The fact of having a price also changes things. Both in the perception of value and the way people connect to me. I m working my way through it.

I have been playing yesterday with seo too, and the lenses that feed this book are having more traffic.

Keep working on it, want the amazon page on first page for "empath books". So far I have a couple of my pages. But I want that one.

Searching for "Empath Books" within Amazon only shows about 45 results at the time of this writing. In other words, there's hardly any competition as far as book quantity goes.

Include your target phrase(s) in the "Keywords" section when publishing the book (from the KDP bookshelf). Include it in your description, and also include related phrases if possible.

Finally, considering Amazon knows when your content is freely available on the web (judging from some PLR horror stories in the past) this clearly means Amazon "scans" the inside of your book. So, who's to say they don't look inside it as part of their search engine algorithm? So include the target phrase(s) inside your book, too.

Thanks soo much! This is great!

I did add the word empath as much as I could, even in the package I uploaded. Will check out everything again to see how many times appears.

There is hardly any competition for something as specific as this, and it is a hungry market (mostly broke, granted...). The crowd is tough though: they can read your emotions, some can read intentions...

This is why I don´t mind sharing my "niche". If someone wants to play in it, he/she is up for some surprises.

Ok, I messed up... edited to add the keyword and now I will have to wait again.

Edit: ok, no problema. It is up, I just can´t touch it from the back end.

I have my keyword in place now.

That's awesome. You're already seeing the power of having a "brand" and being "real" - you told your community about it and they didn't even wait for it to be free - bought it right away.

I don't think it's "nothing" either, might not be a lot of money, but I bet it proves a whole heck of a lot to you, doesn't it?

I bought the book myself just now because I'm interested in the subject.

      I´m "real" alright. LOL

Yes, you are right. It es very emotional for me. Everything about this was so weird and pushed from the beginning. I created the community because a couple of my friends had been kicked out from another one, to have a place to hang out.

Then wrote the book, because I got tired of answering the same questions again and again.

You know the feeling... I think you do.

Yep! I get it. I didn´t know it had a name either. It does make a difference though, the lil pieces of the puzzle fall in place.

And it is not such a weird thing... when everyone come out from under the rocks, it is going to be a nice bunch. About 1% of the population or so.

      Thanks!!

I have been tweaking tags and adding keywords yesterday and today. It seems almost silly, but it is work and it does make a difference.

I am targeting two long tail from empath books to give some weight: non fiction empath books and empath training books.

(adding all this because I think someone might learn from the process).

Working on the next one... yep, just after I finish writing an article that got caught in the commotion and is resisting to take final shape.

    Sandra,
Another good thing to do (if you haven't already) is to create an "Author Page" on Amazon so when somebody clicks on your name, they will go to your page and read more about you and see links to your other books, social media, blogs, etc.

If you need to do this, you can do it at: http://authorcentral.amazon.com

Now you need to scale it up, and just never give up on it. Hard work and patience are the key to success! Good luck :-)

Well, everyone makes mistakes until getting enough experience to stop making them. It is a process.

We are all in that 80% until we stop being there, isn´t?

Exactly Sandra. We all are in that 80% until we stop being lazy and take some actions. Most of the people just keep thinking about it, but dont take any actions. They just keep going after every shinning thing, and dont stick enough to any method. And as a result, they just fail! So the best piece of advice for you on this stage would be that you should actually just stick to kindle books because it is working out for you. And if you stick to it long enough and do your homework, then believe me Sandra it wont be long when you make another post telling how you went full time online with Kindle Books. So just stick to it!

        Wishing you great success.

I don´t know if I can relate completely with this. It sounds like common sense, just doesn´t feel like all the story.

When you get into something new, you need to adjust many pre-done ideas to it.

One thing that I felt very silly until I saw it into action was keywords... I mean.. why bother to add a lil word here or there? Because they make all the difference!

But for someone who jumps in this world, is such a weird concept. Playing with tags? be serious! And after a lot of heartache, you realize it doesn´t get more serious than that. It is weird.

And like this, a lot of other concepts. Ideas we don´t even know we have, because we haven´t test them yet. The whole process is external and internal at the same time, it is a process to break walls, internal concepts that have us caged in a place where we are useful doing different things than the needed to be successful here.

I do feel at home, for many reasons. And I do plan to keep going in the publishing business. It was something I always wanted to do, I just had some walls to break to get there.

            Update:
ok, the kindle stats show 5 sells.

squidoo shows two sells through their system. I have the hunch they are not in kindle yet.

I went to check on my main keyword. empath books

and found that my squidoo lens in on third position.

Above it there is interesting competition: Amazon list (I can create one, will do it later)

good reads popular books shelved as empath: So I went to my good reads list and shelved the book as empath. It doesn´t qualify for the popular crowd yet, but it does appear under genres->empath which is a (natural) click ahead.

Sandra, I was going to mention this yesterday but forgot..Here is a little ninja tip you can try...contact the person who made the Amazon list that currently sits #1 in Google and see if you can send him your book and assuming he likes it, ask him to add you to the list. The books´s looking good. And the idea behind the series is interesting. Get busy, girl!

(just.. if I may... The green part in the cover could use more contrast. Have you tried a drop shadow or making the background a tad darker?)

The only problem is that with Amazon you need to break $100 in sales in order to get paid out so keep marketing your book(s) and you should hit that in no time if you haven't already.

It's actually $10 threshold for EFT payments (direct deposit) and $100 threshold for checks

Thanks! I will setup a free day very soon. I´m not shooting for so many downloads, the niche is small(ish). But I do want to offer a free copy to the people in my community, and some of them will leave reviews.

The only problem is that with Amazon you need to break $100 in sales in order to get paid out so keep marketing your book(s) and you should hit that in no time if you haven't already.
        Thanks!
        It´s ok. I can wait.

Ahh!! That was my first impulse. Still can´t find a way to pm inside Amazon. Any idea of how to do it?

I also looked at the guy some more... he has very few reviews and only this list; the list has two products by Michael. I have seen a guy trying to promote his clickbank ebook in Elise´s community. I wouldn´t be surprised if this was done by a marketer.

What is very good is that there are two positions that should be cleared, the 2012 book and one that is out of stock.

        I´ll keep looking.

        Thanks!!

I didn´t have much idea of why I was doing this at the beginning (as usual )

What I would like people to gather from this thread is part of the implementation if they feel this is right for them. And especially to setup expectations right.

Unrealistic expectations and no map are a recipe for very "interesting" times (in the Chinese sense of the phrase).

Ahh yes, the shade is different. But you also have the added shades of the ebook cover creator. It is a beautiful cover.

Thanks guys for jumping in and helping, and encouraging. I learned a lot in these two days. I feel so blessed... ok, scratch that - we are in a marketing forum - lets say humbled.

There's a bunch of blogs that you can submit to which will email, tweet and post on Facebook about your free book. I use the page over at Author Marketing Club - Free Book Marketing Resources & Tools For Authors to do mine. I made a video that shows you how it works here:

I just checked and couldn't find their contact info either. You know what that means right? You should now create a similar list but with your book at #1

            empathy
            empathic
            empaths and sensitives
            empathy skills

Thanks!! And thanks for all the help!! You are awesome!

Those are good keywords. I will look at them more carefully. I looked at the squidoo lenses with sales, and the keywords they used to find them. Lots with hsp and panic attacks (there can be a connection in some cases). besides the specific I went after (shielding, grounding, balancing, etc)

Hehe It is tempting, isn´t it?

I left a request in my place to make a list of books that really helped people in their development. Once we have 6 or so, I will ask a friend to make the list if they feel like it.

It is not as straight forward as creating a fake account and setting it up (as they probably did in this top 10 list)... but well... I´m sissy.

            Update:

KDP: 2 more sales, 8 in total (I think these are the two from squidoo I saw).

Amazon: search for "empath books", first result.
Amazon: best sellers category Parenting > Emotions & Feelings climbed to position 29 (second page!! ).

            Google: keyword empath books

the book of storms outdid the squidoo lens. The rest is the same,

Good reads: still first for best empath books (still not image, need to see into this).

That is great news and as a psychotherapist, I know that a lot of professionals deal with this question. Caregivers would be a good group to approach too.

        Hi Debbie,
this is awesome! Thanks! Can I pm you and we talk some more?

        Update:

        KDP: 6 sales

Amazon: made it to the top 100 in my category: Advice and how to > Parenting and families >Emotions and feelings

Position 89, almost at the end... but there

        Reviews: 3

Lee, Martin, I can´t thank you enough!

Amazon search for the keyword "empath books": first position.

(Elvis, you are a genius!! thanks!!! The change of keyords in the description and tags made it).

Google: same story, first the amazon top ten (I´m not there), second good reads, third my squidoo lens.

Good reads: I made it to the top of the popular crowd. First position. Bellow me all fiction books.

The shelving I did yesterday worked!

Does it cost anything to publish an ebook?

What are the basic steps to publishing your ebook?

Is it as straightforward as uploading a doc from your computer to the Kindle Market place?

Anything to do with tags, description?

How would you research a profitability of a book? or can you? or is it more like a trial and error?

How would you market the book?

All these questions can be your guide to your next book. Write it, I'll buy it.

BarberShop, here's a bare-bone guide on publishing your first book on Amazon. I tried to keep it friendly/simplistic enough for first-time publishers, skipping many advanced methods such as creating a table of contents, inserting links and other things. If you follow the guide as-is, you will still have a nice book published in no time. Let me know if the article is missing anything else as far as "Basics" go. Thanks!

This is a great table of contents! How about I do it for free with give away rights as thank you gift?

I am taking screen captures of the whole process. From publishing to marketing. Will consider it done after the free promotion and a couple of days later to see the stats. Can you wait that long?

There are some books in that area, but you probably have a trick or two that can make an original product. Or have you own method that works even when others do it as well.

Images are a bit tricky in kindle, but it can be done.

        Update:
        - KDP: 12 sales
        - Kindle store: keyword empath, by relevance (default search) > First page: position 14
        - Best Sellers in Parenting Emotions & Feelings > Made it to first page!
        Position 19
        - Added tags to the product, now I have tag pages I can give some link love
        - For the tag "empath" I made it to second page from starters (position 32)
        - For the tag "empath books", I´m the only one
        - Tag: "empath training". 2 products, mine and one of Michael´s.

Note: the tag pages from Amazon are not very well optimized, they have the keyword only in one tiny place and the url. The tag pages for my keywords do not show on the first 4 pages of google. They might need some work.

google for the keyword "empath books". Pretty much the same.

Good reads, still on first position for shelved (second from google for keyword "empath books").
Search by keyword in good reads: empath > position 14 (first page), 28 results total.
