Does offering a freebie help with affiliate sales?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience offering a "free report" if people buy a product through their web site?

For example, if you're promoting a book on dog training on your site, you offer a free video guide you made if people buy through your affiliate link and e-mail you with the receipt.

Is this something that actually helps sales, or have most people found it to fall flat?

Thanks,
C.B. Stewart

I've found bonuses to be an exceptional strategy in some niches..

What I usually do is to offer it as a bonus for the product, I try not to make it appear like a bribe (although, essentially it is). Make it appear more like a special bonus to the main product.. a much needed addition type of thing.

Yeah i agree with Jay, a freebie should sweeten the pot or compliment the main product and not seem like a bribe (which in essence it is!).

Eerm...hold on, i'm trying to think of an example...mmm...oh yeah

e.g. you are an affiliate for a forex product

so your freebie should be your guide to how you used the software and any little tweaks or secrets that you learnt along the way that produced better results, but weren't covered in the instructions of the main product.

  • Or, you could offer the freebie up front and build trust. Set it up to where they must sign in to get the report. Then you can sell them via email, after they have the freebie. With that trust, they are more likely to buy.

Some offers explicitly ban affiliates from offering incentives. Incentives bieng things like freebies or reimbursements AFTER the sale, not before it. This usually pertains to CPA networks, not CB.

I found that offering free EBook with useful content and provide links to my affiliate in that ebook always seemed to work for me.

I'm with Jay on this one. Bonuses do pay off when doing affiliate marketing, but it also pays to offer something of good value, not junk, and something that relates to the product you are trying to sell.

Good value and whether or not the bonus relates to the product you are selling can make the difference between a low ROI and triple or more of what you may get without the bonus.

Giving freebies can be done in launching the product as a start of good marketing business.Customers will be glad to try your product or visit your site for free then if they will love it possibly get sales right away.
