There's a good course on AppSumo called the Autoresponder Kourse (yes, with a K).

It helped me get my head around the exact question that you had.

"After" is too late. Lists become unresponsive very quickly.

The people who are opting into your list are also opting into other people's lists at the same time, and those other people have autoresponders set up and start communicating with them and building relationships with them right from the day they opt in. So you need to do this, too.

The idea is to maintain continuity, establish credibility, get them to trust you, and then recommend products to them which some will buy through your affiliate links.

So whatever their niche and traffic demographics are, you'll want to be able to promote products aimed specifically at their interests/needs.

But in one sentence: "It's all about continuity and maintaining open-rates".

And well done on having started building lists already: many people don't!

Once you have a good list you can start to drip feed offers to them, dont send too many in a week or you will get a lot of unsubscribes.

It all depends on what type of list you're building. Depending on the time, you need to continue to provide value to them, then you can throw occasional offers at them! Make sure you don't ruin your rep by throwing garbage products at them though.

Yes, you keep mentioning this, Thomas.

As explained yesterday, that doesn't change the fundamentals of list-building and continuity.

I suggest you get a autoresponder, you will have to keep your list interested or your list will become dead.

    you need a plan..
    a) how often to send free quality content in a week
b)how many related offers that add value will you recommend
    c) how you intend to engage your lists, contests or just request them to reply (this increases your delivery rate as users mark your emails as important)

Most list building courses out there only focus on getting subscribers and growing a large list.. However, if you want to know how to market effectively to your list then without a doubt, Autoresonder Madness by Andre Chaperon is the best course on this subject. Recommended by Ryan Diess and a lot of other Marketers.

I have a copy myself and I can't recommend it enough.

      Hope that helps.

you should really be selling your own products to your list

or at least you should be actively trying to create your own product if you don't already have one

you should of really figured out what you wanted to do with your subscribers before you
    even started building a list

you can either sell your own products or create your own membership site and funnel
people into that instead or as well as

the main thing is that you have a list and you are building it and you know the importance of having one so you're already 10 steps ahead of 99% of other marketers :-)

once they are on your list you want to continue to give them lots of cool free stuff. Help them actually get results and deliver great content for free regularly.

Never just send out an offer, always provide great free content and then just do a simple call to action at the end of it to make sales.

This would vary per marketer, but there are more efficient ways.

start to message them as soon as you get them on your list.
