My website is being redirected

Hello,
I'm in the process of building a website and when I type the URL in from Firefox and IE, it redirects to another website. What kind of control do I have over this? Someone is being sneaky!

You may be right, but you'll need to give a little more information than this, for anyone to answer confidently.

Have you changed anything in the registrar settings? Where is the domain registered? How far have you got with the site you're building? Is this is a sudden change?

What sort of website does it now redirect to? What appears in your browser bar when you type in the url? Might it just be the registrar's default parking page (that's very often what's going on, when people ask this question)?

Here is some more information. Sorry, Alexa, I got into a panic mode!

My site: www.widefittingshoesreveiws.com is only about 6 weeks old. I have just recently started working on it and only have 2 articles on it. It is registered with Hostmonster. I don't know if this was a change or not, to tell you the truth. I've been working from the admin page and visiting the site when I wanted. I typed in "www.widefittingshoesreviews.com" (my site) in Firefox and it redirected to "www.wideshoes.co.uk." It looks like an established site. The same website comes up when I use IE 9. When I use Chrome, I can get my site, but I work in Google Chrome, so there is probably a connection there. This is my first website, if there is something I am inadvertently doing, I'd like to figure it out and correct it. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Kathy, I typed your url into Firefox and IE and your site came up, no problem.

By the way, you misspelt reviews in your link.

This ^^^. I'm finding what I think must be your site (red one, Flexibility-3 theme?). In several browsers ...

I bring up a "Problem Loading Page" when I visit.

I think your HTAccess file got hacked. Download it and look at it and look for any suspect code. Delete that and reupload it. If you have HTAccess files anywhere else check those too.

As for how they got in, when they got through on my sites, it was a bad Wordpress plugin. Set your FTP, or however you use to modify your sites, to see when they were last modified. They tend to do all the changes at the same time across the board so it should be easy to spot. If you find a change you didn't make investigate it.

Yup, Frank nailed it. You have it misspelled in the url above. It is not redirecting anywhere.

Okay, I feel stupid! I didn't type in the "reviews" when I was checking my site. Just the "widefittingshoes.com" Fortunately, "reviews" is not misspelled on my actual site.

Ephrils - what web browser were you using when you got that error message?

Thank you to everyone who responded. Sorry for wasting your time.

A few years ago, I'll admit to being a naughty boy. I'd some a very similar thing where I'd received root access to a very popular website. It was all too easy for me to redirect their traffic to my site.

Perhaps this has happened to you.

The site is fine - pulls up easily when you type in the right domain

Man, that one was easy to solve!
