Hi All,

I am between two different niches right now. I cannot decide which one to start with for my affiliate marketing campaign. Both are profitable and big markets that have long tail keywords, etc...

Any advice?

Regards,
Noah

LOVE your avatar - I do remember Doug.

Which one do you like more Noah? Or maybe don't like either and are just choosing between these two because of the larger markets?

Which lends itself to the kind of marketing you want to do? If you will be doing article marketing, guest blogging and social networking you'd better enjoy the content. If you will be paying for advertising then it won't be as important to enjoy your content.

Do you want to develop your own content in one of those niches? Then choose that one because you'll be developing a list of ready buyers.

. Research for different and popular niche on the net. According to me gaming is the topmost followed by IM and entertainment. You should really care what are you best in. Cuz it will be fun while you earn.

The dog training niche is the first one. I like this niche because I have a dog of my own and am a huge dog enthusiast. There are a lot of long tail keywords within this niche, but I worry that there is to much competition.

The other niche is get women niche. This can include dating, overcoming shyness/anxiety with women, seducing, picking women up, etc. I studied the psychology of this topic in school so it is very interesting to me also.

      Thanks for the advice,

      Noah

Do both and put yourself on a daily marketing plan. If the niche is ripe like you say, it should be no reason why you wont make money... other than indecisiveness.

Do some in depth market research on both of them and make a note of who the top 2 -4 potential competitors would be, make a list of potential affiliate and/or strategic partners (sometimes these ARE your competition), and find out how people are monetizing these niches.

Once you do that, you'll have a much clearer idea on which one to pick.

Use the old Ben Franklin decision-making process. It goes like this:

    1. Take out a sheet of paper for each niche. Write the niche at the top, then divide the paper into two columns, pros and cons.

    2. Over the course of a few days write down the pros and cons of each niche.

    3. Once that is finished, try to weight them. Whichever one has the most weight in the end is the one.

That's the short-hand version of it, here's a reprint of a letter Franklin wrote that explains it in greater detail.

    Do both.

Make a proper plan for both niche.
Divide time and money. IF you had limited money, invest more on niche that you confidence more.

Start with the one you know the most about. After you get that one up and running and start seeing some money coming in, go for the second one. Just make sure to stay organized. You could alternate days between niches or something.

    Hi Noah
When it comes to making money online, it’s a harsh mistress and it takes a lot of work to pull off a successful business. So if you’re not willing to put in 110% effort to building a successful internet based business and never having to work again, I would highly recommend that you close this course and go find yourself a nice little 9-5 job. You’ll have guaranteed income and a structured environment where you’re told exactly what to do and how to do it.
This business isn’t for everyone and people who don’t employ practical fundamentals of good business won’t last in this business long at all. These are usually the people who end up giving up on a website or an idea before they even give it a chance. If this sounds like you at all, then I’m sorry to say but this business might not be for you. There are several different fundamentals and mentalities you need to adapt and put into your everyday life to ensure you have success.
First and foremost, failure is not an option. You’ve got to completely erase the idea and thought of failure from your mind. If you’re afraid of failure or just the idea that you won’t succeed, then you should know that this is completely normal and there’s nothing wrong with you. Everyone who goes into business has a chance of failing and has that fear in the back of their mind. You will fail a good portion of the time. Thomas Edison himself said “I haven’t failed; I’ve just a thousand ways that don’t work.”

Though a lot of people already gave you some good advice, personally I also feel that you should go with the niche which is more known to you.

If you could just state those 2 niche in another post, it can be easier for us to answer.

  • I'd suggest you play with your strengths. Weigh both of them. Determine it's pros and cons, it's disadvantages and advantages, and see which of them will make you most comfortable.
I disagree with the suggestion of doing both at once. I'd suggest you stick to one niche, for the meantime, until you bring it to perfection. You need all the focus you can get, and by dividing focus, even with proper plans, it will only yield you less results than what you'd expect. But it's entirely up to you.

    Ask yourself...

    1. Which one is easier and more cost effective to generate traffic for?
    2. Which one has higher affiliate commissions/CPA/possible recurring income?
    3. Which one is likely to be a better long term punt?
    4. Which one would you enjoy more - doing the work and marketing for?

So, what are the keywords. Actually your question is not so much specific. That's why I am not so sure about you. I think you should have a look at the basic rules of researching keywords from SEOMOZ -

I was going to respond with "do both" but a few people here already suggested it, which I think is the better decision.

    Hello Noah,

Based upon the fact that you listed the “dog training” niche first that might be a subconscious indication that this should be a higher priority for you. Yes it is a very competitive market and that is what keeps weak marketers from ever achieving success in that niche.

However, if you are able to maintain an enthusiastic attitude on a daily basis combined with the right amount of knowledge, planning and effort then that can be the driving force behind you working long enough and hard enough to carve out your piece of that market.

And if for some reason it doesn't work out for you, after you have given it your best effort for a year or two then you should consider the relationship, dating or “get women” niche.
