My 2013 New Year's Resolution
UP until now I didn't take New Year's resolutions to seriously. I mean you here everyone talking about how they are going to lose weight by going on a diet, or how they are going to drink less alcohol, its all hokum for the most part. How many of us really follow through with our New Year's goals for more than a few weeks? Then it hit me, the act of creating a yearly to-do list is why we fail... we give ourselves too much leeway. Our goals are far too big to be handled they way we approach them. Instead we need to apply Parkinson's Law to our New Year's goals, and give ourselves short deadlines. Need to lose weight? Go on a 90 day boot camp. Need more money? Call your credit card company today and negotiate a smaller interest rate.
So for this wonderful new year, I am going to focus on a only a few things that I feel I need to get done/get better at, and they are:
Automate my Business: I have found that I am far too involved with my business projects. I will eliminate the unneeded, and strive to simplify what is needed. I will create an operations manual for each division then begin to hire independent contractors to run each division. In short my goal is to act more like a CEO and less like an employee.
Don't spend money on video games: I know this may sound silly to some of you all, but I have a weakness for video games. I prefer not to say how much I spent on games this year (more than 500) but I have decided that unless it's a gift I will not be buying myself anymore video games. It's going to be tough but if I limit myself to only playing them on the weekends I won't be bored, hence my need (or illusion of need) to buy a new video game won't be as strong.
Learn a new skill: I consider myself to be a sort of a renaissance man; I strive to become as well rounded as a man can be. So this year I want to learn to something that pushes my comfort zone. Since guns seem to be all the talk today. I will attempt to learn how to use and respect a gun. A part of me wants to learn to, but for the most part I truly hate them. I feel if I learn to use one, maybe I can learn way a lot of people are so dead set on keeping them. At least that's what my hope is.
Let's focus on big actionable steps that we can start to do today and work towards achieving our New Year's goals as fast as possible.
