My 2013 New Year's Resolution

Howdy,

UP until now I didn't take New Year's resolutions to seriously. I mean you here everyone talking about how they are going to lose weight by going on a diet, or how they are going to drink less alcohol, its all hokum for the most part. How many of us really follow through with our New Year's goals for more than a few weeks? Then it hit me, the act of creating a yearly to-do list is why we fail... we give ourselves too much leeway. Our goals are far too big to be handled they way we approach them. Instead we need to apply Parkinson's Law to our New Year's goals, and give ourselves short deadlines. Need to lose weight? Go on a 90 day boot camp. Need more money? Call your credit card company today and negotiate a smaller interest rate.

So for this wonderful new year, I am going to focus on a only a few things that I feel I need to get done/get better at, and they are:

Automate my Business: I have found that I am far too involved with my business projects. I will eliminate the unneeded, and strive to simplify what is needed. I will create an operations manual for each division then begin to hire independent contractors to run each division. In short my goal is to act more like a CEO and less like an employee.

Don't spend money on video games: I know this may sound silly to some of you all, but I have a weakness for video games. I prefer not to say how much I spent on games this year (more than 500) but I have decided that unless it's a gift I will not be buying myself anymore video games. It's going to be tough but if I limit myself to only playing them on the weekends I won't be bored, hence my need (or illusion of need) to buy a new video game won't be as strong.

Learn a new skill: I consider myself to be a sort of a renaissance man; I strive to become as well rounded as a man can be. So this year I want to learn to something that pushes my comfort zone. Since guns seem to be all the talk today. I will attempt to learn how to use and respect a gun. A part of me wants to learn to, but for the most part I truly hate them. I feel if I learn to use one, maybe I can learn way a lot of people are so dead set on keeping them. At least that's what my hope is.

Let's focus on big actionable steps that we can start to do today and work towards achieving our New Year's goals as fast as possible.

what's your New Year Resolution?

New Year’s Resolution...I heard that it is a bad word because people never keep it.

    I like 2013 New Year’s GOALS a lot better.

You need to work with goals that are small and can be reached within a few days or weeks. You need to have both short term and long terms goals.

Spend more time on stuff that produces something and less time on stuff that doesn't (and get better at recognising the difference between the two ).

My goals for 2013 include making money online and traveling more. I have also been asked to form a partnership with a really good marketer so will investigate that as well.
I am aiming at making it my best year online.

My goal in 2013 is to work on all the projects I have got, and treble the turnover on them all - instead of starting new projects.

No new projects in 2013 for me.

I too used to spend lots of money on video games, fast cars, fast women, alcohol and partying. The rest of the money I wasted.

Seriously, my new years resolutions and goals are to smile and count to 4 before picking up the phone, to do more of what works and drop what doesn't, to help more people in their businesses and to hire local sales agents and pay them fast and fairly.

I always liked the New Year's Resolution that was to never set another New Year's Resolution

I don't do goals either, I think they can give you an excuse to procrastinate.

Instead, I think about who I want to be, and I BE. If I want to be thinner, I make sure my present actions support that. If I want to make more money, ditto.

I don't say I want to do X in Y months, because then I'll waste Z months before I even get started.

Instead, just be. Or Just do it, your choice

    Cheers,

I suppose my new year's resolutions are:

    (1) to get fat.

    (2) to care less.

    (3) to earn more.

    (4) to be more outspoken.

    (5) to be less tolerant.

Seriously. There is not a doubt in my mind that accomplishing each of these things would make me a better, happier, and probably a more likeable person.

Be self sustaining by year's end. I keep getting closer, but I've never really got to a truly sustainable place just yet. But I have so many things lined up that I'm fairly certain that I'll make it sometime this year.

      Nice list. :-)

In my case I'd replace #4 with "start working on my music again". I miss playing my guitar and writing songs. All work and no play isn't good.

My #1 New Year's resolution is not being disarmed by the government, under any circumstances whatsoever. I will not give up my arms without a fight.

My Constitution gives me that right, and I will always embrace it, no matter what these gun-grabbing libertards try to say or do.

My next resolution, is to learn how to code/program in Visual Basic 2010 (which I'm currently working on)

Its slowly coming back to me, since I used to program in VB3 when I was a teen, but things have changed a LOT since then..

If anyone who reads this might be able to help me figure something simple out, please check the programming section of WF to see my thread & what I'm trying to do.

I know I'm going against what OP said however I plan on changing a few habits for the better - the most important thing is the relationship you have with friends/loved ones, health and happiness. May I suggest we do more of the of the following:

      HEALTH
Drink plenty of water. Eat Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince & Dinner like a beggar. Live with the 3 E's-- Energy, Enthusiasm & Empathy. Make time to pray. Play more games. Read more books than you did in 2012. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Sleep for 7 hours. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily And while you walk, Smile.

      PERSONALITY
Don't over do. Keep your limits. Don't take urself so seriously. No one else does. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip. Dream more while you are awake. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present Happiness. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present. No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Smile and laugh more. You don't have to win every argument, agree to disagree.

      SOCIETY
Call your family often. Each day give something good to others. Forgive everyone for everything. Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6. Try to make at least three people smile each day. What other people think of you is none of your business.

      LIFE
Do the right thing! GOD heals everything. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. No matter how you feel, Get up, Dress up and Show up. The best is yet to come. When awake in the morning thank GOD for it.
Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy.

      LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST
Do hugs, not drugs. Spread love, not legs. Respect, don't judge. Listen more, talk less. Understand, don't assume. Forgive and forget. Enjoy your last night of 2012. God bless you all!

      Best,

      Ricky

I agree with someone who said the term "new year's resolution" carries an expectation of failure, so to avoid the baggage, I will just make a list of "rules" for myself. I think there is a direct correlation between the amount of discomfort each rule causes, and the benefit that following it would produce, so these are what makes me uncomfortable, but that I know would improve my life:

Rule 1) I will have no more than 3 main IM projects at a time. Main projects defined as things I spend more than 30 minutes a day on. I will allow myself side projects as long as they take less than 30 minutes a day, and as long as each of my main projects receive more time than that in a given day.

Rule 2) Do daily task planning in the morning, every single work day (5 per week), and then go through the list using a timer to stay on track; no exceptions.

Rule 3) Never do anything that's just for fun, until after I have completed at least 2 hours of solid work on my goals for the day.

Rule 4) Every time I pick up the guitar I find some nice idea or chord progression worth saving, but rarely write it down. From now on, every guitar session will include writing at least a few bars of a melody, chords, or both.

If I stick to these, I believe my productivity will immediately double at the very least.

PS: I am putting these into my personal organizer too, and suggest others do the same. If you challenge yourself, the part of you that doesn't want to change will surely make you forget what you said if you don't keep it in your face any way you can, until it's become a habit.
