They are into feminine things of course.
Sell them the 'usuals' with an unusual strategy . . .

You're going about this all wrong. You do some research and find a profitable niche market first (dating, video games, weight loss, sports, learn guitar...), and then market things to those people in that niche are looking to buy.

    • are you successful marketing those niches? they seem way oversaturated to me. I am looking for something a bit outside the box...

You'll probably find that the answers will be based upon subjects which are popular as opposed to touching upon in-demand things which are rare...The popularity of the topics grant you such answers.

It sounds like what you are shooting for is a wide niche in a very specialized subject. This will involve a little bit more activity than flipping open a couple of mainstream mags which only feed the popular and typical topics.

You might for instance want to target something that is typically male (but you know there is female demand) and use the female element as the USP.

as above poster said...you're doing the research abit backwards.... (don't asian american girls have the same general interests/problems as all american girls?)
but none the less...if ur set on this market

-from observation i can see that youtube (howto & style category) is dominated by 5+ ASIAN "make-up" tutorial bloggers. maybe check out their vids, and see the products they're promoting (ex: if they're promoting sephora products...go sign up for their affiliate program)

-don't know if xanga and other more "asian" social networks are still being used. you can check out who's advertising on those sites; promote their products.

      -Info product wise...let me think.

      Joey, 'tain't necessarily so.

If you have access to a group of people known to spend money, you can make a lot of money selling a variety of things to that group. The key is understanding that group well enough to target promotions to them, in the language they want to hear.

As far as marketing to this specific demographic, there are going to be cultural points that have to be connected. My recommendation would be to hire an Asian American girl in this age range to do some innocent cyber-stalking and document the sites, products, magazines, TV shows, etc. that she and her peers favor. Then immerse yourself in those things (or hire another researcher) to find not only the products/services being sold to this group, but HOW they are being offered.

Ask them what girly magazines they read, then go out and buy the top 3 or so, read them and cut out all of the ads in those magazines. Put them on the table in front of you and you have your answer.

      ^^ This

Although I do not market to this demographic, this is exactly how I would initially approach it (except for cutting out all of the ads), in addition to the insights suggested by John and Alexa. Find other online/offline venues targeting this group and note the recurring product promotions. For those under 18, try slanting your purchase approach by appealing to their parents.

Best to find a few, ask them their opinions, and encourage them to "ask around" their friends and report back to you again, as well. Your own little "focus group"?

My own instinctive suggestions for this demographic are "educational info products" (especially languages/science/cultural), and after that, maybe fashion/accessories/cosmetics (but these are probably more competitive, less demographic-specific and lower commissions, too?).

My own guess is that 16-18/19 and 19-24 may really be two fairly distinct groups, for a marketer. (And "potential payment difficulties" may indeed be somewhat relevant for the first group, as observed above).

dating offers, makeup stuff, competition can be your friend if you network properly. I would ask for feedback from your group, set up a survey (another thing young girls like to do) with surveymonkey or some other free survey service and see what comes back

    Good Luck!

I would contact these girls and ask them what they like to buy the most. What subject are they most interested in. What they are willing to pay for these items.

You don't even have to personally talk to them. There are many forums online that these girls hang around so you can ask them these questions there.

If they haven't graduated yet... birth control. I swear 20% of the kids in this area are pregnant. They probably have to get their parents permission, to give their child permission to even see a doctor. My youngest daughter is now in 12th grade, and she tells me how many of them are pregnant... it is insane. Then they all have welfare benefit cards. I watch these pregnant kids, buy subs at the local service station with benefit cards.

Sell them something about drive, and not being stupid, and wanting more from life. Maybe not being content with just existing.

Blah sorry, just came back from cumberland farms (mini mart/service station), and saw a kid pregnant with a kid again... using... { { drum roll } }... a benefit card. See this at least 15 times a week. Then saw the title of this post lol.

Don't know why people say you are marketing backwards, lol. You are doing some ol' school direct market selling.

Find out what females in that demographic are looking at or buying, find sites selling to that market and you can set up advertising with them and pull them into going to your site where you sell similar things in a way more specialized to their market.

Do not be afraid of "oversaturated".. that simply shows there's a lot of money in that market. A 'small fish' in huge pond can do very well.

That being said, if you think you have an angle to tap into that demographic I say go for it. I actually tend to prefer that method - first find a crowd I can access cost-effectively, figure out what they want, sell it to them

Instead of asking us, why don't you ask them?

        Here's how to do that:
        1. Set up a really nice questionnaire on a blog page.

        2. Give them a really cool CPA gift that requires an email submit that your market would like.

        3. Make the last part of the questionnaire the email submit of where to send their gift for filling it out etc...

They tell you what they want you to sell them, you get paid for fulfilling the CPA offer and you build your list at the same time.

        What could be better?

Might want to think about that term "Asian-American" girls. A Korean-descent girl probably isn't going to have the same tastes and preferences as a Vietnamese-descent girl.

    As always, niche down.

Good response. "Asian" is such a huge category. Are we talking Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Pakistani, Indian, Cambodian, etc...?

That being said, while their heritage and likely familial experiences are going to be vastly different, they are American women. You don't necessarily have to provide them with a meaningful cultural artifact, just a product that catches their interest. As others have said, try visiting popular women's sites and you'll get an idea of some potential options. Clothes, skincare, work advice, tech, dating, fitness and cooking are all popular topics. Your choices are pretty broad depending on what way you want to go.

If you really want to be insightful: Treat them like human beings and avoid stereotypes. Asian women (and men, for that matter) tend to get plenty of pressure to be perfect, model creatures of intellect and poise from both their families and the media. So just pick a cool product and try to develop a safe haven.

Well, I happen to have some asian/american relatives and have seen them from as young as maybe 6 into their thirties or so. They were raised VERY asian. The boy died through a dumb mistake, so they are both girls. The American father merely let their mother rule the place. And they both learned japanese at one point, the older daughter became fluent.

I HAVE known others, but saw these at relatively frequent points. They were first and foremost female. Most things most females were interested in THEY were. and the older one was one to wear dresses, etc... and kind of into fashion. The younger was almost a thomboy type. She actually lived wth a biker and helped him with his motorcycle parts business for a time. ALSO, when she was young, she learned the accordian! NOT an asian instrument! They were BOTH fluent in English and, talking to them on the phone, you would NEVER know they were asian or that their mother spoken Japanese at home.

Did I mention that they ALSO were in an asian area with many like themselves.

So HEY, treat them like females! You might through in some stuff about learning the language of thr other country, or things having to do with the other country, but they will be happy with the country they are in. My cousins, for example, would appreciate history, gifts, etc.. from japan, and even japanese art, food, or language courses.

Think what would be of real service to them
do it with right attitude and the Universe will support your efforts.
Most young women are raised to lack self confidence
this maybe more so in some male dominant asian cultures
They are insidiously targeted via media advertising who play on
and increase them feeling lacking in themselves
so that they can be marketed to
any glamour items from toiletries to clothes.
Few have enough self confidence to not get caught up in that
and it can be expensive for their BF's and husbands too
this never fulfilled lack of self worth consumerism.
Lack of self worth is also a large factor in teenage pregnancy.
So think products that help them improve that and create and provide real solutions.
