2 Spots on Page 1 of Google with this technique

About 6 months ago I created a slide presentation using MS Powerpoint and made it my first upload to slideshare.com to see what kind of results I would get. (my first presentation too so don't laugh)

This was for a new site with no PR and no links in or anything

Within 3 days I had page 1 of Google for the term "goalie mask painting"

I then created a video of the presentation and uploaded it to youtube.com and got another page 1 on Google for the same term.

It is 6 months later and I still have 2 spots on page one yet haven't pointed any links to those files myself. Just did the search again today to verify and had the last 2 spots on page 1

the video has had 1,345 views so far and the presentation 663 views.

I did this as a test for a mask painter friend to see how fast we could get page 1 results for a new site in his field (his site)

I know a lot of you use youtube but haven't seen too much on here yet about slideshare and thought I would post my results and hopefully help some people out.

    Hi Vince,

    That is a low competition key phrase, 18.600 results, so that sums up why and how you got those 2 spots. But is always good to know low competition niches can get some visitors per day using slideshare!

    How about your friends site? Is he ranking high?

    This is actually a very powerful technique I use a lot. Video pages, much like normal pages can benefit from backlinks, on page SEO and many other factors.

    The best thing about having videos ranked is the extra thumbnail and powerful eye-pulling power that can have. You can be anywhere in the top 5, have your video "Above the fold" and attract a lot more traffic that the number 1 spot if your lucky.

    Heck, even in some of the most competitive industries you can get your targeted videos on the first page.

    This has been a core part of my marketing for the last year or so.
