What to do about a Yahoo Domain

Hello All,

I have a strange situation and I am not sure what to do, if anything, about it.

I registered a domain a few years ago with Yahoo when they were doing the $2.99 domains or something like that. anyway when they decided that they wanted $35 to renew last year I decided to just let it go.

Funny thing is that the site is still up and functioning. I have a Movable Type Blog on it with some Adsense, and it starting to make some money. Not a lot, but I have done nothing with it.

I sure would like to transfer it over to Godaddy, but can't I guess.

Any Warriors have any ideas on how to get this fixed, without giving Yahoo $35

Thanks

Seb

What's the name of the domain or website?. Are you sure it's live?. Maybe someone else picked up the website and is running it?.

They usually have auto-renew...so you probably paid for it somehow. Just turn off auto-renew and register it with another registrar. You'll have to get the domain auth code, but you can do that in their control panel. Once it is transferred, Yahoo won't own it any more.

That's me, I am almost sure that I never paid for the Domain.

I am hosting it at LivingDot and have complete control.

I call Godaddy about moving it to them. I would need ot get Auth codes from Yahoo.

I have absolutely no idea of how to log into the account with Yahoo (it's been a couple of years) and of course there is no way to call them.

          Maybe it's gone.

Well, it's registered in your name until September 2, 2009. You need to find a way to contact Yahoo and ask for help in logging into your account. Once you can log in, you can retrieve the auth code and unlock your domain. Then you can go to another registrar and initiate a transfer, using the auth code.

Never register a domain with yahoo.

I had to transfer a domain from yahoo once (years ago) and had to jump through hoops to get it transferred. You have to contact some company Melbourne IT (or you did back then) and get some type of code and I don't even remember all I had to go through, but finally got it transferred but it took several days.

Even if yahoo gives away domains, stay far away from any domains from yahoo.

And if yahoo has your credit card info they probably did auto renew your domain. $35 a year for a domain is crazy.

You can contact yahoo customer support, but they don't exactly have the most helpful customer support. It was a nightmare when I had to call, I almost think they get people who can't speak English on purpose to force you to stay with them.

Just want to know if yahoo is the one that hosts the domain. if they are the one that hosts the domain it shows that you bought both domain and hosting from them. In that case their is nothing you can do friend. Some cheap offers online can be that dangerous.
