No its not but there are laws in place to govern this business. Here's some info: Is selling knives online illegal? Do a quick Google search for much more info on this subject.

  • Depends on the related laws of each country. Here's a relevant Wikipedia entry that might be helpful: Knife legislation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's another Wikipedia entry that might be more helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balisong_(knife)

I echo the above poster. There arn't any hard or fast rules and it depends upon the laws of the country that your are shipping to. You really need to get some legal advice from teh countries that you plan to ship to/from as every single one will have different import and export rules as to what they class as a weapon.

You may also have trouble finding a payment processor to accept your product because many of them have prohibited product lists that include knives and weapons etc.

    Anyway hope that helps.

There are many distributors of knives online, I can't imagine it being illegal.

I'm sure there are stipulations and regulations you'll have to follow though, so either way it would be best, like above mentioned, to check things out and make sure you are covered and won't have someone hounding you down later.

If it were me, I'd be asking a lawyer and not a marketing forum.

Some knives are legal and some are illegal in different states in the US. Paypal allows the sale of knives, but not butterfly knives (switchblade types) or throwing knives.

Knives are sold legally all over the Net. Just use caution as to the type of knife you're selling, the laws in the states or countries you are selling them.

I know it sounds obvious, but please be careful who you are selling to, I can't speak for most, but here in London knife crime is massive and growing, we are constantly having teenagers stabbing each other and lots of young lives wasted.

There is nothing wrong with selling knives online, but do beg you take responsibility on who you are selling to! like I said to many parents have been burying their children and weapons should'nt be readily available!

But as stated above, legal advice should be sought, you know how this world has gone mad with everyone taking everyone to court! I'm sure a parent who's lost a son or daughter to knife crime would sue you if it was proved you were making these weapons readily available to anyone!

    ...just something to think about

Yeah, I agree. There are knives that are obviously built for street use and knives that are not. Survival knives, hunting knives, kitchen knives, pocket knives, those multi-tool knives ... all can be used for evil, but that isn't what they were built for and they are legal. You can't screen out bad people from being customers, but you can try to filter out knives that are more than likely to be used as a street knife.
