I recommend camtasia for recording and sony vegas for editing. But you can edit in camtasia, just better in sony vegas. Now that is the paid route, they do have free trials though.

For the free route, you can go with camstudio to record and window movie to edit. But they aren't that really good compared to the paid software.

I also recommend that you check out animoto.com, it may be better for you.

I have no free choices for you but Camtasia and Sony Movie maker do have trial versions that you can use to start making videos (and money) so you can afford some decent tools to continue.

Sony Movie Maker is just like Sony Vegas but without some pro features which you'll never need. It's also much cheaper (less than $100) but there's a learning curve. I suggest looking up Bill Myers ( Bill Myers Online) as the only expert you'll ever need for learning how to edit and make movies.

I also recommend Camtasia for capturing screen movies. It depends on the quality you want to achieve and how serious you are about producing high quality crisp and clear dynamic movies.

I use camtasia too. The free software is good but the paid one is even better Think of it as an investment but the free one is ok. I just then use windows movie maker to edit.

Well I agree with you on this... Camatasia free version is always good but the paid one rocks.... Still one can go ahead and check for the free version and can use its nice and exciting features

If you're on a Mac like me, use ScreenFlow, It's cheap and works great!

I upload Photoshop tutorials to YouTube all the time and I use this software to capture my screen, record myself (in HD) and create callouts for the cursors where needed.

    great software!
