Hello Everyone,

Brand new to the world of Internet Marketing in general, and this forum in particular. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks on these boards, as well as a couple of related forums, and have found the general tone of patience and helpfulness on this site to be head and shoulders above the competition (to remain name-less). With that said, I thought I would take some time to introduce myself tonight.

I first became interested in IM about six months ago when I stumbled across Pat Flynn's "Smart Passive Income" podcast. I've been doing a good deal of research ever since. I've "launched" a couple of small websites with the primary goal of getting familiar with the concepts of hosting, creating content, using wordpress, etc. And in that regard, both sites were successful enough. But neither or them were launched with the primary goal of monetization, at least not in their current iterations.

Now it's time to really get in the game. I'm bound and determined make 2013 my year; to look back someday and remember it as the year I began my escape from the entrenchment of the 9-5 mentality. I've no doubt that there is loads of hard work ahead of me. But I am confident in my abilities. And with a little help (OK maybe a lot of help) from you fine folks, I am certain that I will be well on my way by the end of the year.

I'll be posting my first question shortly after this, but thought it best I keep the introduction separate. Thanks for reading. I look forward to becoming a valued member of this fine community.

All the best,
JG

    Welcome and good luck!

The best way to learn is to try and fail. Lucky for you this forum is full of people who have already failed for you and can tell you what not to do!

But on the other hand no one here is going to give you the answer to get rich so don't fall victim to that.

So my best advice is learn from other peoples failures because people are willing to share for free, and then look for your own successes.

Thank you so much Aaron. I appreciate it. And to be clear, I do not have my head in the clouds, or any misgivings about get rich quick schemes. I'm in it for the long haul!

      Welcome!

The advice given above is spot on. Don't think anyone is just going to hand you the keys to your new mansion and Ferrari. They worked hard and failed to get to that and honestly very few people ever really get to that point. We're talking empires! However a lot of people are making a lot of money anyway, and they will gladly point you in the right direction but just know that 99.9% of your success will come from your own patience and failure and not because someone else did something for you or gave you something.

Now this doesn't mean you shouldn't invest in good products and services, because I'll give you your first reality check for you free: You will need to invest!
Im sorry but that is the truth. You will not by any means be able to do everything yourself. At some point you will need to let someone else with better [blank] to do it for you. As long as you do your due diligence with whom you trust to deliver your goods, the benefit of outsourcing some tasks will boost the profit in the end as opposed to you putting out junk and losing money altogether.

There was just a thread earlier where a Warrior had to learn the hard way he isn't the guy for video voice recording. He got a lot of bad rep from previewers and had to go through to heartache of wondering where to go when he hit that brick wall.

Through it all the advice stands pretty strong. He needs to let a pro record the voice over.

I hope this is allowed but I would like to toss the thread link your way if you haven't seen it yet. The thread is called: "28 vid tutorials, 3 months work. Spanked Grrrr..."

        Thanks Joshua, great advice.

Funny you mentioned that, as video tutorials are something I've given a lot of thought to.

But not to get too specific, I take your overall point. I've heard a lot about outsourcing and am convinced that there is value in it (of course). I'm almost through reading "4-hour Workweek" (awesome). Tim Ferris does a great job explaining these very concepts in a way that makes them seem attainable (they are).

        Thanks again!
