Tools to create mocup websites / webpages?

Hi guys,

I am sure there are many of us here who are not designers or programmers but still need to create mocup designs for websites or new pages for our designers to create in to beautiful finished pieces.

What are your favourite tools to do this? I use photoshop and sometimes microsoft publisher. They allow a non-techy like myself to get my ideas across to the designers.

What is your favourite tool for non-techies?

I've found that it's best to let the creative guys do all of the creative work. I always get better results when I give them the general idea of what I want and let them do all the creative work. A lot of times the more demands you give them the more they will be handcuffed.

However, if you do need to show them something I can't imagine there is a better tool than photoshop.

If that doesn't work for you just take a screenshot of a webpage that you like.

Generally web designers and architects will do the mock up based on your specs . If you have a designer that you use why not ask him / her what software they use as you just want to do a mock up to give them better direction.

Make it clear that you just looking for software that will allow you do do a basic prototype of sorts so they dont panic that u might end up doing the main job yourself and they lose your business. Mention though that you are a non techie . Bear in mind though that something they find easy may not be so for a non designer.

      I can't really use it

I just thought there may have been some kind of tool that made it really simple for non techies.

I really like Hotgloo and Balsamiq. They are simple and easy-to-use, have trial versions and many reviews available. The list of mockup tools you may check http://mashable.com/2012/06/07/mockup-tools/

I think it depends on what your goal with the mock up is.

I mean if you want to show them a live example(very powerful) then you will need to create a mobile site, tweak it for their business, and upload it to a server where you can then access it from your smartphone.

However if you are more of the seller/closer but not the designer. Make some basic image mock ups and examples, couple it with a screenshot of what their site currently looks like on mobile phone(for this you can use a smartphone rom) that will load any website as though through a smartphone, then just take a screenshot, and print out a page with just the images. It will still show them and you can just make some images in Gimp. No programming required and it still has a good effect. Once they purchase then allow the designer and programmer to take your example and make it real.

      Hope this helped

    I prefer App Sketcher myself....

It is a bit technical.... But, it creates HTML pages you can hand off to your Web Developer...

I am a web designer and I do like working from a mocup that the customer do theirself. If you dont know how to use photoshop, you can try paint or similar. You can even scribble/draw on a piece of paper your ideas and scan it. If you need any help send a PM anytime.
