How to Make Money Online... Simplified

In my opinion, too many people make this whole "make money
online" thing too difficult. Nobody likes difficult.

In fact, one of my big New Year's goals is to simplify my
life in all areas.

So let me show you how to simplify making money
online.

When it comes to selling products and making money
online, the first step is finding a market to sell to.

Who is going to buy your stuff?

Me, I like markets that have a lot of
people who are actively looking and searching
for solutions.

In other words, its much easier to sell
something to someone if that person
is motivated and actively looking for what
it is you sell.

So step one is finding a large group of people who
have a problem they want to fix.

Problems= markets.

This is why weight loss, relationships and dating,
health and wellness, career, finances, etc... that's
why those are always top sellers. It's because these
markets are full of people who have problems they
want to solve.

Again, go after those who are already motivated to
solve their problems... you'll go broke trying to motivate
someone.

If someone wants to lose weight, chances are
they're desperate and actively searching for a
solution.

So step one when it comes to making money online
is finding a group of people with a desperate problem.

The more desperate and urgent their desire for a solution,
the more motivated they'll be to solve it.

For example, if you have back pain and you're sick
and tired of living in pain, wouldn't you consider
buying a $47 info product if it shows proof that it
can help you get rid of that back pain?

You want to find a group of people who have a
problem. The more desperate this market is for
solutions, the better your chances are of selling to
them.

How to clear up your face from acne will usually make
you more money than how to train your dog to ride a bike.

Someone looking to lose weight, someone looking to date
more, somebody looking to cure back pain... any market where
there's a desperate problem that needs to be fixed is a good
market to target.

The next step is to create a product that solves this problem.

An info product can be an e-book, an audio recording, a webinar,
a special report, a video... or it can be a combination of these.

All you're looking to do is give people the answer to their problem.

It doesn't matter what you choose as long as you're solving the problem.

Imagine a doctor scribbled down the cure to cancer on a napkin... is
the fact that it's a napkin make the product any less valuable. Nope,
it's the solution that matters.

If you want to create an audio product, simply get a microphone
and talk into it for an hour, solving the problem your market has.

You create an MP3 that you can then sell for $27, $37 or $47.

It really is that simple. Find a large group of people who have a
problem and then simply create an information product that gives
them a solution.

When I first got started, it took me almost a year to write my
first ebook. Sure, that one ebook went on to sell over 3 million
dollars worth of my fitness program... but these days I can
have an ebook ready to sell in about 24 hours or less.

You just put your solution down on a word document, you
turn it into a PDF, and presto... you have an ebook.

You can hire others to write it for you if you want, but
the main thing is that it solves the problem your market
has.

Once you have your target market and you've made
your ebook, audio, or video... then you want to create
a sales page that persuades people to buy your product.

I've seen many great products just whither and die because
they didn't have a good enough sales page that persuades
people to buy.

After all, just having a product isn't good enough, you have
to PROVE to people that it will help them. Your sales page
is what does this.

You can have a written sales letter or these days, more
and more marketers are using video sales letters.

No matter the method, it still comes down to the message.

Your sales copy must be persuasive enough to get people
to open up their wallets and part with their hard earned
money.

This is the one area that most marketers drop the ball.

They spend a ton of time, effort, and money on making
sure their product is the best, but then they treat the
sales copy as an afterthought.

Take it from me, I've been in this line of work for 12
years and your sales copy is one of the biggest keys
to success... or failure.

Your sales letter is your 24 hour sales person... and
if the letter is poorly written, you'll have poor sales.

Again, the market has a problem... you have the solution,
but you have to PROVE to the prospect that you have
their solution... that it will work for them.

You have to paint that "before and after" picture in the
prospects' mind... showing them that if they buy your
product, it will help them get rid of that problem they have.

You show them how their life will improve when they use
your product.

You show them how trading their $39 for your product
is a good value exchange. Then you include some bonuses,
a guarantee, and some scarcity tactics and you're done.

So far we're up to 3 simple steps:

You find a large group of people with a desperate problem
they want fixed... you create an ebook or other info product
that solves their problem, and then you create a simple sales page
that proves your product is something that will help them solve their
problem.

The last step is to get people to your sales page... you need
traffic.

A great product and sales page without traffic is like a restaurant
in the desert... no one will see it.

You need to get eyeballs to your sales letter, so you can tell people
about your solution and how it solves their problem.

There are many, many ways to generate traffic these days. Google
adwords, Facebook, Twitter, other social media, article marketing,
renting lists, JV's, linking, media buys, PPC, PPV, CPA, and more.

Google Adwords works well because you have people who are
actively searching for a solution to their problem... so if your
ad shows up when they're looking, there's a potential sale.

Article marketing and creating more and more content is
also a good, long term way to create buzz to your site.

Bottom line, that's really all there is to it.

Find a large group of people with a desperate problem,
create a simple product that offers a solution, create
a sales page that persuades them to try it out, and then
get as many eyeballs to the page as you can.

It really doesn't get any more difficult than that.

There are so many people out there who make the whole
process more complicated than it needs to be. And the
worst part is, it's usually the "gurus" who are looking to
sell you their "latest and greatest" product... and what
they'll do is try to complicate things and muddy the picture,
just so they can present their new product as the savior.

Hopefully you see from above that the entire process
of making money online can be broken down into parts,
each one coming together to form a system that can
be repeated over and over again.

I've learned over the last 12 years that the more you
simplify, the more likely you are to continue doing it.

Too many people complicate the whole process. It
doesn't need to be complicated. It needs to be simple.

    Shawn....

You hit the nail on the head. People do the simple, and avoid the complex. Too many people fail at IM because they are making things so darn complicated.

Great job at simplifying how to be successful at making money online.

Thanks Joe... yeah, I call it the "shiny new toy" syndrome.

I've been unsubscribing from as many "guru" email lists as I can lately... lists I've
been on for 10 years or more.

Again, it's all about simplifying things for me in 2013.

How would the WF survive without them though?

I mean isn't that the focus of the WSO of the Day?

Keep getting people to part with their money on the next "shiny new toy" instead of been focused?

I've been doing this as well - information overload! Need to be doing rather than reading about doing.

Simple is the way to go. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration. And for reminding me that I have so much more work to do than I thought.

Avoiding distraction is important, so is keeping it simple. Work on one thing until you nail it to the wall, then figure out something else to work on.

Great post, but in the end it all comes down to traffic. You have said this and given the usual solutions, but not so easy for the great majority to actually generate the aforesaid. Otherwise we would all be in the Bahamas with our shiny cars parked by the beach.

        That's not strictly true.

I think a lot of people assume that "traffic" = Money, but what we're talking about here is - People - customers - clients - buyers, not 'traffic'.

You can get a lot of 'traffic' and not make any money. The problem isn't getting traffic.

When you pick your business model and niche you are putting the framework around who your potential customers are.

The bit most people get wrong is that they try to use the exact same "traffic generation" strategies - no matter what their niche is.

I know people like one-size-fits-all answers, but the reality is - you need to understand the people that you are expecting to make your money from, where they hang out, what they're looking for and what they need to hear in order to buy from you/your site.

I helped a company once who only had a potential market of 50 customers. They already knew how to find them and what they needed. So the purpose of their website was nothing to do with getting "traffic" but simply to support their proposition and messaging, so that when they spoke to or met one of their potential customers that message was supported if that person checked out their website.

In reality they only needed to land 3 of those customers to have a profitable and sustainable business, so the fact that there were 50 of them was way more than enough.

But if they had come here asking how to market their software - they'd had received a whole bunch of 'advice' about traffic generation being the key.

Knowing your market is the real key.

    Keep it simple!

Over the years I subscribed to so many 'guru' lists that I lost count of them and bought so many WSO guides and 'How To' books that at one time my credit seemed to be permanently maxed out.

Today, I have unsubscribed from 99% of the lists I was once on and buy WSOs once in a blue moon.

There are many ways to make money online but writing you own book is definitely an excellent place to start and much easier than you might think. My first book for publication on Amazon took me 6 months to write and was a labor of love. However, while I'm still very proud of my first publication, I realize today that you can have a book up and running in just a couple of days and the advice given in the original post here is very sound indeed.

    A freebie.
And a 5 follow up autoresponder series promoting an affiliate product.
    A couple of YouTube videos.
And report back your sales after 4 weeks.

Is so funny, who don't you ask this... "can you just send me the money?, cause i'm to busy to do all those stuff "

If you want to make money, you have to take your first step... and also, don't expect other people tell you the TRUST on how to make money. Cause you will become their competitor.

I have made money with clickbank, but till now i don't want to make an cheap WF ebook or sell any coaching program to other. Many of my friends asking me to teach them but i won't. Cause if i teach them, they will become my competitor.

to @shawnlebrun, thanks for sharing this high value post.

this 1338 word post is without a doubt "1337"

I know it's early in the year but can we nominate this for post of the year?

Thank you for condensing some of the crazy elaborate thoughts in my head. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to get serious about marketing something online, that is of my own creation, or to start a new e-commerce store of some kind, or then I thought maybe I should get into affiliates or AdSense, but Shawn, your post brought me back to reality. I need my own product. Something I know how to do. Something I have done myself offline for the last 18 years which has proven to make me money when I do it right and which I enjoy thoroughly. In fact writing about it motivated me to do it again and I just made a list of how to make it happen with something I already have.

Thank you Shawn, this is gold right here (maybe you should make a 99 cent Kindle eBook about it? Could sell a few million???)
