What's YOUR definition of a NICHE?

In simple terms, how would you define the word "niche" ?

    I was going to say small, but that's not always the case.

    Another word could be "obscure" maybe?

    Wow, ToughTurkey said it perfectly in two simple words... way to go!

    That's exactly how I would define a niche, as an extremely, precisely, laser-targeted group of people who have the same likes and tastes.

    For example, dog lovers is a group of people who love dogs. But blue-nose pit-bull lovers is a VERY targeted group of people... and you could call that a niche market.

    Cool...

    Yeah, my definition of a niche would be "a group of people all interested in the same topic".

    I just read on some blog post someone's definition was something to the tune of "a market where there is high demand/customers but low competition" and I thought hmmmm...then started this thread.

    This will be VERY interesting to see the various feelings and thoughts about this simple little word.

    a niche to me is a market, I dont think you can define a niche just as a very targeted group. It all depends how targeted you want your nche to be

    Heres why in my opinion....

    Dogs is a niche

    Labrador dogs is a more targeted niche

    Chocolate labrador dogs is an even more targeted niche

    How to stop your chocolate labrador dog barking in the night is a targeted niche even more !


    You see what Im saying anyway....

    All markets are niche markets to me, its how deep you want to take them !!

    The more targeted, the more profitable IMO ..

    Everyone can attract their niche. This is what I tell people that think internet marketing is too crowded to succeed. I think dictionary.com's definition of niche puts it clear enough: 'pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific appeal.'One's specific appeal is their niche.
