Question about kindle prices

I have become quite fond of (more like addicted to?) downloading free kindle books in the top 100 of my favorite categories. I like to think it is research, but can´t really fool myself that much.

Lately I noticed a trend, I download free books marked higher faster than I download the cheaper ones.

Have you guys tested this as a strategy?

It's simple human psychology. People feel more of a sense of urgency for something with a higher perceived value. Make sense?

I think its more a sense of something being more valuable so naturally you choose that first. still comes under psychology though

Well people tend to equate quality with price. Often people will assume the product MUST be good if it costs a lot.

I think this is a great idea in principle Sandra, but I would be cautious. I constantly see reviews from free downloads were people say the book is short and not worth the price, despite them getting it for free.

Reviews like that not only damage your books reputation, it hurts anything you publish under that pen name.

If anyone tries this then don't write a 99c book and price it at $5.99, write a $5.99 book and make it free.

Very good point though. Someone with the right knowledge and determination could make good use of this.

Well, if a book is not good it will have some thumbs down no matter the price.

Give the best you can and detach from the result is all we can do.

    Sandra,
I do the same thing lol. It definitely feels like you are getting a better "deal" when you get a $5.99 book (or app) for free versus 99 cents even though it may not be as good as the 99 cent one.

As somebody said above, it's human psychology at it's finest!
