Suggestions For This 1 Word Domain?

Hi Warriors,

I have a friend locally who owns the domain: culinary.com

It has been parked since 2006 with some basic ads on it.

He is ready to do something with it.

I want to suggest the best thing to do, and am open for any ideas
from you guys?

Thanks!

I personally think that he can get a lot of money for that domain name. Maybe in the $100.000's of dollars. Maybe more.

He can get rich overnight if he finds the right buyer.

Yes, I agree, that was my FIRST thought, but of course want to see if any other ideas come in too. Thank you.

  • Looks like a good domain name. Where it is parked till now? Why don't your friend park it in sedo and open it for bids? Thus the potential customers will easily notice the domain.

What a waste of a great domain name. I personally would sell it for big money and let someone who will actually use it as a culinary authority site have it.

Yep, I am meeting with him later today and will suggest he sell the domain name, so someone can use it for something they love. Thanks for all the suggestions and input!

I wish I was in his position. That's such a HUGE domain. Yes, he could sell it, but he could just as easily build up a super strong niche/article website on it and make tons of passive income off it -- while still retaining the ability to sell it in the future.

Does that site get any traffic?

If it does and he chooses not to sell, he can post affiliate links on that site and let him make money on complete auto-pilot for years.

It sold for $100K in 2003. The domain is too good for a cheesy affiliate site. It could be a dynamite authority site, whether highlighting the best culinary schools or culinary news, topics and schools combined.

For lack of a better word, holy blank.

In terms of the authority site, I 100% agree. It wouldn't be that expensive, and he could make a HUGE freaking killing.

            3.35 MILLION searches/month.

That's the kind of domain that people might literally kill for.

Great input guys, you see he is "already rich", he just wants to do something with it. I agree totally that the domain is too good for a cheesy affiliate site.

I also am going to take your suggestion on making it an authority site. As you said he has some great subjects he can feed it with schools, culinary news, etc.

I am meeting him at 5:30 pm today, so will post back what he decides to do with it.

Heaven forbid . . . another spammy affiliate link site. Why would someone prostitute such a good domain on such a "lazy" business model?

A short one word dot com domain like that could be the home of a multi-million dollar a year authority food site!

Have him go to JointVentures.com: Domain Lease and Domain Partnership if he cannot do anything with it.
It is Rick Swartz company and they may lease it for him with commission of course.
