I am about to start a blog but do not know what to blog about. I like:

percy jackson books,
naruto (a little),
math,
and other stuff.

can someone please suggest a topic for me? (it does not have to be in the list above.)

Thank you

You might want to blog about a topic which you are interested in or know about. Rather than asking a bunch of strangers you should choose a topic which actually is of your interest and is profitable(Since you are here I am assuming you are interested in making money with it) in the long run.

I see you have a list of topics, I'd like to read about solving Maths problems efficiently.

Actually I think this a great idea. When I was in school and couldn't figure out how to do a math problem I looked for examples on the web rather than the text book. You could do something like this which could lead to an opportunity to do tutoring or sell leads to tutoring companies or a CPA offer.

You will definitley want to pick somehting you know and enjoy though, when building a site seems like work its easy to just "ditch" the idea

The act of blogging itself does not matter any more, but the act of consistently creating education based content that is easy for search engines to find and index, easy to share, attracts links, creates a searchable and archivable body of work on a subject and will never be seen as inorganic by Google has never, ever been more important.

Everybody keeps saying start a blog about what you are passionate about and not bothering about the overhead expense that might arise and also if the blogger wants to earn money.

I will only blog about what am passionate about if i plan to run a charity and not out to make money, if i want to make money i can literally fit into any niche and can outsource the techy task.

Sammytheman, i advice you use Google Keyword Tool or trend tools to find out a popular niche to venture into. And also when you blog, you would want to ensure you have the best writer, allow guest bloggers on topics that you can't write or hire and also bring the best/hot news all the time. DONT FORGET to build your list too, especially at the beginning.

Some SEO and paid traffic will help, what is left for you now is how to monetize it, so ad sense is what i can think of and promoting related product in a non offensive/distracting way.

passion is a fine and dandy thing.

but if your passionate about the mating habits of the anbary asmar egyptian swift pigeon your going to get zero traffic and no profit because nobody searches for that.

All of the topics you listed above get high search volume, pick the one with the least competition and get to work.

Every week I want you to pick one keyword that you can rank for. write first for your blog (around your keyword), create a video for that post (around your keyword) and one more article for guest blogging (around your keyword).

repeat the process every week with a new keyword.

remember we rank pages not websites, take it easy on the ON PAGE SEO and when backlinking vary your anchor text.

Blog about something you enjoy writing about and something that you can write about at least on a daily basis.

Your posts don't have to be super-optimised if your content is good and regular, but some keyword research around the topic you decide on would not go amiss.

Me personally, don't blog something that didn;t bring you money! Period!

Why you have to go and doing something thing didn't bring you money? right? From what my personal guru mention that :

    1. Do something that bring you money
    2. You must enjoy what you doing
    3. It was easy, if not easy you must find someone to delegate the task

That was my moto, and i hope you found this useful.

Make a blog for each of these: Miami Heat, Percy Jackson Books, Naruto, math.

As for naruto and math you can make multiple blogs.

    For example:
Math - pre algebra, algebra, geometry, calculus, trig, diff EQ, etc. could be their own blogs.

Naruto - Pre Shippuuden, Naruto Shippuden, Naruto Movies, etc. could be blogs.

Now it would be easier to just combine them, but you could make all of them blogs and interlink them

And after you start getting some traffic you can contact big anime websites and sell advertising on them. Or you can do adsense, but I'm not sure how profitable math and anime is with adsense.

Hi Sammy, here's the thing. If you don't know what you really want to blog about, then you will be wasting your time to start. That's the honest truth. Blogging runs on motivation and passion. If you really have these things in you for a topic or anything, then you'll know what to say. That's what's missing with many bloggers and they lose interest rather quickly. They get started on a topic and then....

If you're writing the content yourself and don't write about topics you're interested in, then you'll likely become bored quickly and quit. Blogging is about information, opinion and commentary. Are you really blogging or just publishing content on a blog platform? There's a difference.

What is it you're trying to do? Make money? Share your knowledge and/or opinions? All of the above? If it's make money, you should ask yourself if blogging is the appropriate method.

Blog about the Heat and hurry before they go to the finals again. When this happens, the internet buzzes on the key word and you can capitalize on this attention. The topic is not important as much as if it has passion to you. This gets you through the rough times when writing and also it's easier to give value and build excitement around something that has your attention. Miami & OKC rematch

There's a milioin people blogging about basketball. You should blog about a topic that interests you as it makes the process more enjoyable and because you likely have more knowledge in that area. That said there's a million people blogging about basketball. Maybe try to find a smaller niche, a fan page for your favorite team or favorite player. I blog about Iraqi Dinar and Vietnam Dong.

I started out by building a couple blogs around topics I was interested in. All of those fell through. I may be writing about something that's an interest, but I couldn't figure out how to drive traffic to my site and get people to buy stuff from me.

From what I've seen, a most blogs are a labor of love. They were created because the author wanted to write about a topic and share experiences with other people. I don't know the numbers, but I would bet that most people who blog don't make money from their blogs.

Now doing something like creating a niche site around a set of KW's that promotes a product or products... that is way different. Create the site and then start driving traffic to it. Popular niches include things in the health/fitness niche, dating/relationships, or "embarrassing" niches.

You should only blog about something you have knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for. If your blogging about something you know nothing about this will show through and no one will come back.

The key to a successful blog is to keep them coming back. Then monetize your blog.

    Hi,
Before everything - it's great hearing that you want to start blogging, and it's even better seeing that you're asking warriors for advice before jumping in. I wish you a whole lot of success!

I'll answer your question, then add something that might help you regarding Strategic Blogging (as opposed to "regular" blogging).

Those who said you need to blog about what you're passionate about are correct - but those who said you should blog where the money is are also correct. The answer to "what should I do?" always starts with "what do you want to achieve?" so it all boils down to determining what you want from your blog - what's the reason that you are blogging:
    • If you just want to blog for fun, to spend your free time while doing something you enjoy and communicating with likeminded people who read your blog and comment on it - just choose whatever topic turns you on.
    • but if you don't really care what the subject is and just want to blog as a business - blog where you think the money is, and after you start earning you can outsource the writing (getting good writers can be done even on a very tight budget) and move on to "rinse and repeat" with other topics and other blogs, again and again.

Let's assume you're somewhere in the middle, meaning you want to earn money but you also want to enjoy the work. In this case, check the topics that interest you for possible profitability.
Three major aspects you should ask yourself for each topic:
    1. Is there a Market?
    2. How much Competition will I face?
    3. and possibly also - Can I Monetize it well?
    I'll explain:
Is there a Market ? - you can write the most interesting blog ever about a topic, but if nobody's interested in that topic life will be pretty frustrating for you: no readers equals no money and no fun. Do a quick search using Google Keywords Tool to get an idea how many searches per month there are for major keywords of each topic. Also, if you want to catch current fads and fashions you can use relevant keywords on Google Trends to see whether interest in the keywords is rising or waning. Both tools are free.

How much Competition? - Do a phrase search on Google for major keywords to see how many sites there are on each topic. If you enclosed the keyword between quotation marks ("phrase search") the number of results displayed on top of the first search page shows you how many sites will be competing with you for searches on that keyword.

Of course - the more searches and the fewer competitors a topic has - the more attractive it is for you.

A small warning: Don't spend too much time doing this research. Trying to get everything perfect right from the beginning can sometimes lead to endless delays. So once you get the idea of how to do the research - limit the research to one evening, one day - whatever you feel comfortable with, as long as it's limited and not very long.

I said you should also check monetization, but this is secondary and can be done later. It's good to check this, but only if you limit the time you spend researching this. Besides monthly searches, Google Keywords Tool also shows you the level of competition on their paid ads for each keyword (previously we checked the competition on free searches). One thing is certain - if people spend money on advertising, this means there's money in that subject. Let's say you find two topics which both have many searches and a reasonable level of search-competitors. If topic A has lots of ads and topic B doesn't, this usually means that although you'll get the same number of readers on both topics - topic A will make you more money. The ads you put on your blog will be worth more , there will probably be affiliate products that you can easily promote on your blog, and maybe later you'll even develop your own paid product.

This brings us to Strategic Blogging. As I said before, what you want to achieve from your blog will define what you do there. So here are a few thoughts, most of which I learned from my mentor Alex Jeffreys:
    • A few of the replies here advised that you write about a topic which you have knowledge about. Here's a twist- how about writing on a subject you don't know a lot about, but you want to master? Something like "Hi, my name is Sammy, I've only read one Percy Jackson book and I think it's amazing. Stick with me as I read all of his books and then share with what I liked and what I think was a bummer". Really - don't be afraid to admit it if you lack knowledge! I know from personal experience that if you keep it real, your blog will have a unique personal angle and it'll be more interesting. Readers will identify with you and want to follow you and progress along with you. It's both fun and profitable.
    • Make sure to give your readers a whole lot of content. Don;t just rant and rave in your blog - make each visit worthwhile. Post when you have something to say which you think your readers will benefit from and enjoy. Once in a while create a product from your blog which you can give free to your site members. You might cringe at "free" thinking "I haven't even started, and this crazy dude Brad tells me that when I finally get to creating a product - I should do it for free!!!" - but believe me this would be worthwhile. I've earned over 1 million dollars from sales of both my own products and from selling affiliate products worth millions - but then for various reasons my business crashed. Had I created relationships and free memberships with my readers and clients - I would've been loaded today. And besides - when you have a blog, creating an eBook from what you learned and wrote would be easy.
But I'm digressing - the important thing is to give lots of free content that your readers will benefit from. For now - on your blog pages.

Sorry... I haven't finished the "strategic logging" tips but gtg now.
Hope this helped and if you have any further questions would do my best to assist.

    Cheers,
    Brad
