    Have you tried Google voice?
It's free and should do the trick.

    You tried Skype?

I used to have a similar set up with them a while back.

I use Sonetel & Google Voice together. (Google Voice requires a US local number to verify and forward calls to, so I first set up a Sonetel US no to call mine).

Ofcourse you can say you can just stick to Sonetel. But by this setup from there on you can make and receive local US & CAN calls for free on Google Voice - which calls my Sonetel no, which in turn rings my local no wherever I am. So I don't pay Sonetel for local calls. You can also text for Free using Google Voice (unlike most others). But like I said, you do need a local no with GV, as its allowed only for US nos.
