How do you keep your books for your online business?

I have always looked for a better way to keep up with the income and expenses of my online business. A few days ago, I discovered a system I like. It is free. It is kept online and it automatically keeps up with my Ebay sales and Amazon sales and expenses. Of course I have to do some work to fine tune things, but if you are interested in checking it out, it is at

Accounting Software | Online Small Business Bookkeeping Services - Outright

Not an affiliate link. I just thought some here might like to check it out. It is especially designed to help you get ready to do your income taxes each year, but it looks like it will save me a lot of time and work. I already have my data ready for tax time.

Thanks,
Alton

That's pretty helpful, I'm useless at this admin stuff, particularly finances. I wonder if it works for the UK, or designed purely for the USA?

You have to consider this. At some point in your business you're going to need the services of a professional certified accountant. Most CPAs are setup to use Quick Books with their customers. Love it, hate it, you're going to find it more efficient and less costly to use QB.

QuickBooks, book keeping girl and my trusted CPA. Taxes paid quarterly. Offline, online.... whatever. A business is a business and the same tax laws apply - whether you're selling $7 reports or pizza.

I use Outright and highly recommend it. I also recommend YNAB. I might actually be switching from Outright to YNAB even though it doesn't automatically import transactions.

I have used QuickBooks for my "brick and mortar" antique store for years, but it doesn't provide the ease of interfacing with Ebay, Amazon and Paypal that OutRight does. I still use it for the antiques store, but I am now using Outright to handle the records for all of my online sales. It really saves a lot of work. And, once you get it started, it keeps updating my records daily.

Many folks such as myself use programs such as Turbotax to put it all together at the end of the year.

I just use Excel and enter info as I go. At the end of the year it is all set for my accountant. I just do a summary which takes me 5 mins and then I go see him. 30 mins later he has finished my tax return.
