What's up guys. Has anyone here used fiverr like websites to buy or sell and if so what has been your experience?

Name the site you've used.

I use to own a fiverr clone called Micro Jobs Online. I sold it because I knew how bad the business was after almost a year in it. There are many people who scam the owner of the site for every fiverr like site. I have friends who own other fiverr clones and the same things happen to them. Either way, because of all of the scamming, the owner of the site sometimes cannot pay the people that sold gigs. So if you are going to use a fiverr like site, only use it for buying.

P.S. I don't use Fiverr either because it is too easy to get banned.

One of the most common is "sellers" will set up both a seller account and buyer account.

They then steal a credit card, charge a bunch of gigs with the dummy buyer account.... and then deliver them with the dummy seller account.

They then cash out within the 7 or 14 days.

After that time, you get the chargeback and are left holding the bag as the owner.

This happens every week on my site. You have to install sophisticated methods to catch these crooks

I was getting this on my site a lot. The reason I sold it was because I was losing more from scammers than I was making. What I did to stop this was blocking the scammers' ip address. But doing this did not stop other scammers.

Anyone know of any other fiverr-type sites with the same amount of buyers and traffic as the original?

I've gotten some activity with MyCheapJobs as a seller. But Fiverr has by far been the best for me as a buyer and seller.

As a seller, though, I've found this site helpful in finding high-traffic Fiverr alternatives - The Top Fiverr Alternatives for the Month of December 2012. This list is updated every month. So, as far as I've seen, the webmaster stays on top of it.

        • wow! i had no idea people scam sites like fiverr so much... i honestly believed it was a no-risk system for the owner.

Maybe im just too innocent stil

I have a friend who has several accounts and buys/sells his own gigs to himself to boost his rating everytime he starts a new profile since he uses each account to serve a different niche.

Dont know if this is against rules or not, but he has not got banned so far.

Ive checked out many other sites such as fiverr but the #1 problem i come across is that they dont seem trust-worthy to me what so ever. That is the only reason i have not bothered selling or buying from them.

But ive used fiverr succesfully to make around $2,000 in just a month with video services so fiverr is a good one.

I'm just as innocent and naive as you bro.. It would've never crossed my mind that people did this kind of crap..

No worries man cuz in the end we will be successful while these losers are just burning their bridges until they have no where to go..

I've had good experiences with oDesk. It's more sophisticated than Fiverr, but you can still find gigs in the same price range. Their review system doesn't seem to be gamed as much as Fiverr's, and you can actually watch your contractors work with their admin interface.

If there are any owners out there that want a "heads up" on where most of the fraud comes from.... the biggest offending country out there is VIETNAM.

I have special trackers on my site that watch the VN IP's closely

I just jumped in one day and and my gigs sold well, even with no promotion. Some sold nothing at all. I over delivered on all my gigs big time and was able to reach level 1 as soon as I became eligible.

Left all my earnings in the account so I could buy Fiverr gigs from other sellers which at the time seemed like a great idea, but failed miserably. The problem is, you don't even get five bucks worth of work in most cases, so I've wasted lots of money on gigs I can't use and the authors don't agree with me when I point out that they deliver amateurish products.

Writing gigs with links, drafts, and a ton of details I wanted included and excluded. I bought 4 gigs from this person in one shot thinking I would get better service. Ha! She delivered almost a week late, not even close to what I asked and when I complained she said that it was my fault for not giving her enough details about what I wanted!?! Refused to refund me, contacted customer support and got a refund instantly.

Hired one of the better banner designers as per the portfolio I saw and same thing, bought 4 or 5 gigs so I could get the premium version of her banners. Delivered 5 days late, contacted her said sorry she would do them tonight and include a big bonus as a thank you for not cancelling. Got them the next day, no bonus and the quality was that of her other cheaper gig. She was selling 3 banners for 5 or 1 banner for 5 and another 5 for extra details and effort. I paid 10 for each banner and got delivered something I could not use, no but I mean just could not use at all.

Tried to get some eBook covers done and after waiting two weeks for any kind of reply I emailed asking for status update. He replied with a cancellation request saying his laptop "died". I called his bluff and said common, just do the work and drop the excuses. He replied that his holidays were horrible and he was suicidal. Eff-Me, I contact fiverr support to have them contact the police to report a suicide threat and haven't heard anything back nor have I been back since.

In conclusion: It was easy to make money with the right gig. I was not able to purchase anything usable, that is not to say there aren't sellers out there that do a better job. I was one of them but now am gone... The key is to sell something automated so you can just sell and deliver taking no more than 30 seconds to do each transaction, then you could make money on auto-pilot.

Wonder if you could find jobs that people would do for say 2 bucks? Like why pay 5 bucks if you could pay 2 bucks? These are often jobs that the seller types in your url and presses send. So they're sending to there twitter, or facebook, or list of whatever. So they don't have to do much. I mean I'd like to pay a lot less, I think 5 is too much money!
