Which domain name would you start off with?

I am opening up a website and want to focus on only one domain name:

Either www.fakejewelry.com or CubicZirconiaJewelry.com

The term "cubic zirconia" has 18,100 Local Monthly Search (cubic zirconia jewelry has 880 Local Monthly Searches) and fake jewelry has 720 on Google.com

I only want to focus on one and have been told to do both.

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, I have read and appreciated all your comments.
Basically, fakejewelry.com will sell everything except real gold or real diamonds.

It will sell titanium, cobalt, stainless steel, cubic zirconia jewelry, etc.

Maybe I should have pointed this out originally.

Thanks again.

I'd take fakejewelry since it's easier to brand. Also, layer on many smaller streams of low competition traffic sources.

I'd go with fake jewelry as it gives you much more scope for growth in terms of different products which you will need if you want to produce an authority site.

Also, I hope you are targeting North America as us Brits spell it like this: jewellery

      Hope this helps.

      • I'd go with fakejewelry too.

You can always create a page fakejewelry.com/cubiczerconia

That way you can brand, grown the site and aren't limiting yourself to one product

To be honest & I am telling you from customer point on views I dont like Fakejewelery.com
As it sounds so cheap to me I don't want to tell some that I purchase something fake or anything !
Don't know something really weird about this name other one seems nice !

These do have slightly different markets, but I'd go with fakejewelry -- much larger potential scope in the long run.

Personally I wouldn't go for either. Fakejewelry implies that you are selling fakes, when you are really selling alternatives to diamonds and like.

CubicZirconia has limitations for growth and will not help if you want to expand product range in the future.

You would be better opting for a domain that is clearly jewelery related but not necessarily specific. For example one of my clients domain names is called stonejewellers.co.uk and we currently have 80 keyphrases ranking on page 1 of google.co.uk. FYI alternativetodiamonds.com is available!

Don't be concerned with sourcing a exact domain name match as these carry little Seo weight with google et al because of the sheer number of spammy sites that use exact domain name matches.

I agree with JohnV88. Why burden your sales by giving the customer the idea that what you are offering is "cheap crap" before they even look at the site. There are times when negative marketing can work but I don't think it should be in the domain name. It screams "fraud" or "counterfeit".

I have no idea what domain names are available, but it seems to me that replacing the term "fake" with something like "replica" or "reproduction". Maybe even "HeirloomReplicas.com" or "AntiqueReplicaJewelry.com".

    Just my 2 cents

No, it would not change my mind. I haven't seen your site and I already think it is selling "cheap crap". Again, it is giving your visitors a poor impression of what you have to offer before they even get there.

If you are selling things other than gold or silver, it doesn't make them "fake". Consider the term "semi-precious" or "imitation". If you are more interested in branding even use something like "cloned".

Take a look at the imitation or replica watch or perfume market or ideas.

In the end these are just one persons thoughts and you should follow your own instincts as you clearly have a better handle on the market than I do.

Good luck with your new venture.

After creating niche websites for a few years, here are 3 reasons why the 2 domains are not recommended:

    1. Exact match domain for both name
    2. The word "fake" may be mark as spam to search engine
    3. Too much focus on targeting search engines traffic or volume

Choose something more generic like "Blinky Heaven" or "Jewel Tavern" ... something brandable. Then focus on providing good content with user in mind.

I am tempted to say, I would prefer to check used domains first in Godaddy.com, and see if there is anything up for auction there. With a bit of luck, you could find a used domain PR3-4 that is close to your niche; maybe google still has some pages of the site indexed. Then all you have to do is calibarate your content to match the index pages, and push them up the rankings for your keywords. You will be top 3 for your keywords in no time.

What's wrong with getting all the domains? Decide which one you want your web site on then point the others to it to benefit from traffic to all of them.

Unless you already registered both of them yourself, I took a look at Godaddy and it seems that they are both taken.

I would never go with fake jewelry.

Why? Because it is by a buyers market. Perhaps they are looking for tips to spot fake jewelry, but that would be hard to sell to.

"Fake Jewelry" puts me in mind of a shady character opening his topcoat to display cheap jewels and empty Rolex cases.

As others have said, the CZ name is limiting.

Maybe something that sounds just a wee bit classier, like "FauxJewels.com"?

Weird....everybody knows that a narrow niche is the way to make it big, yet
everybody keeps saying go with fake because 'it will broaden the scope of
    products'.

You don't want to broaden it, you want to specialise and become the biggest player
    in the smaller market.

'cubiczirconia rings' or such is probably better still.

I am honestly surprised that many people are recommending to use fakejewelery.com. It is a surefire way to lose credibility instantly among visitors. I, personally, will never buy something from a website which has the word fake in it's domain.

If I had to pick, I would choose the second. Otherwise I'd go back to the drawing board and figure something else out, because the first one has bad branding and the second is too long, in my opinion.
