I have done some real work on my site, but still no results...?

Hi again,

I posted a little while ago about my site and some issues with getting traffic and making money though ads. I did get some helpful advice, and I am grateful for that but I still must be doing something wrong.

In a nutshell, my site Runwildtv is a special interest site/blog/vlog about wildlife, exploration and adventure.

Since getting advice, I have:

- Hammered the SEO (different pages/posts are SEO'd for the relevant topic and scored highly using VibeSEO as a guideline. Google results for the various keywords are looking good too. Should I have just one SEO topic for the whole site?

- Added a blog of things I have found and photographed with interesting facts and info. This includes a video log when a video is made

- Added a video tab on the top

- Improved the appearance, compacted the header

- FREE desktop backgrounds to download

- Implemented a Facebook page (stats below)

Also here are the stats for the site itself for the last month:

So my questions are:

1. Getting more "likes" on facebook is for some reason very difficult. Maybe I am doing things the hard way. Other facebook users seem to easily be able to build up likes with similar pages but I believe they are doing it in a more shifty manner- they simply download other people's work and post it as their own. I do not operate like that. How would I get more "likes" on facebook?

2. What needs improving on my site? Obviously the advertising is failing as I am earning nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance

I personally am no fan of facebook (no pun intended), but if I were in your shoes I would be looking at something like Infographics as they can be quite viral. People love images.

As for the design, the last tab in the nav is on the second line and looks broken to me in chrome. Also, as I arrive on your site, it is not clear to me what you would most like me to do, click or buy. That needs to be more evident.

    Cheers dvduval,

Infographics? Sounds like a great idea, I'll be looking into that.

You raise a valid point about being unsure of what to do upon landing. I want visitors to browse through the site and enjoy the content and hopefully find the advertising links useful. As for the tab on the second line, firefox displays it all on the first line...

I'll get to work to find a solution to that issue

    Cheers

Hey Nathan, Can you increase the height of the images (on home page). Its looking too narrow on my 16:9 screen & is not appealing for me. I would like to see more amazing wildlife pics.. maybe a gallery

The free entertainment type of sites are the most difficult to monetize. They weren't found using a buyer's type of search term. The better the quality of the site is, the less likely people are to even notice the ads. Sad, unfortunate, and it might be just my experience, or it might be true.

I've seen a few successful made for adsense sites, and the material was so bad you really did want to look for something to click away from it.

Facebook likes don't seem to mean much. I have a page with 165 of them, the last time I checked the stats it had 3 visits from fb in 30 days. I think it took about 40,000 visitors to get that many likes.

But your traffic stats are amazing. It shouldn't take too long before it is at least paying for the domain name and its share of the hosting.

It's not supposed to be depressing! Maybe it comes across that way by accident, but most people tell me that the horror stories are funny. If you could provide an example I would be grateful.

        Thanks

your front page has very little info what's your site all about, then nav bar to much stuff and confusing....I would expend front page, because that's what users first see and put some ads

Cool, good to know. The makers of the theme I use have no real room for customizing the front page to any real detail. They say they will be able to in the next upcoming edition of the theme. I'll look into it further. Thanks.

      Thanks for the insights,

So it would be difficult to monetize such a site due to the very nature of it... I have a bunch of sound recordings of studio quality that I am looking to make into ambient nature tracks for people to download in the future (once I have got them ready- takes loads of time). What other options would there be aside from adsense etc? I am taking on other contributors, but until I make some money I can't pay them directly, the only option they have is to add their own affiliate links for now, and if that won't work... Anyway, I remain optimistic. I know it has to work somehow so I shall keep at it.

      Thanks again Lloyd

I don't like the transparent background that let's you see the actual background (waterfall) behind the words.

Each page of a website is ranked individually. Different SEO for each page. It might be different if I had came to the page looking for what you have to offer but .. I still don't know what you are offering.

To me, RunWildTv sounds like it should contain a collection of animal fights or something. The site def does seem tame, and might disappoint the average visitor, who has "wilder" expectations.

Your background image distorts the info. It's difficult to focus in on any one thing.

What is your goal with the site? To make money through advertising?

If so it's not the best model to create long term income unless you are getting tons and tons of traffic.

Do you know a definite answer to these grass routes questions?

What is the dying unmet need in your niche?
What drives them crazy, keeps them up at night and drives them crazy?

Can you create a product or service that meets that need?

Thought about building a list of people that are interested in your market?
    This is important.

if you are looking for ad clicks, you'll probably want to experiment with their placement.. put them in the content section, where the readers eyes will actually come across them naturally. as is, I can't imagine a very decent CTR..

disclaimer: I only glanced at the site, and pulled up 1 article.

I have not looked at your website, but I did read something about horror stories? Is this what your website is about?

If you post short stories on your fan page then that helps increase activity.

I saw someone doing it with embarassing sex stories and their fan page had grown to 150k in about 4 months!
