Calling all newbies and former newbies!

As someone starting out in Internet marketing or someone who can remember what it was like at the beginning, what would you say are the biggest challenges, things you need the most help with or things that you're struggling to understand the most?

I'd say one of the biggest challenges for most would be being exposed to too many different methods of making money online, and so briefly trying each one and achieving nothing at the end. Each method alone requires a lot of focus and dedication.

Some of the major things that took me a while to finally get right were these:

    1. Without a proper, executable and realistic business plan, you're running blind.

    2. Thinking ahead and long-term instead of here and now, and not chacing after one "One Push Button" miracle solution (which doesn't exist anyway) after another instead of systematically and steadily building the proper foundations for a business that will endure and last the test of time.

    3. Not putting all eggs in one basket. i thought I had this one covered, thinking of diversifying my projects, but it took one Google update for everything I was trying to get started to come crashing down.
Lesson learned, Don't Put All Your Eggs In One Basket!
That means not just making one website and being done with it, but also how you generate traffic, create/generate content, promote, advertise and so on! A business with one solution is a business in huge trouble, because it takes just one hindrance to make it come to a halt.

    4. Proper reaserch!!!
This one took me a few tries before the coin finally dropped. I'd start doing a little keyword research, getting dazzled by all the pretty looking numbers and forgetting to REALLY drill down, check to see if there actually is a buying marked, if there is anything I actually could promote, how strong the competition is and so on, and just dive in head first. I don't think I have to tell you how it mostly ended.

I'm more than sure there's a ton of other things, and that others will pinpoint them. The most important thing of them all is this though:

    Take Action Today!!!

    Best of luck

For me, it was getting the big picture. Not the mission; but understanding what all the parts were and how they fit together.

There doesn't seem to be much out there that explains it very well.

trying to understand why newbies who say they are new, have a website that makes claims to riches, and why they do not know how to use the search button.

The biggest revelation was that most people on these forums have ulterior motives. Most of them trying to sell you something, some of them more subtle than others.

My biggest challenge in the beginning stages was having a plan.

I was randomly taking 'shots in the dark' ...

Dabbling here, doing a little of this, doing a little of that.

      Did those things work? Yea.

... but it was all sporadic.

Getting a coach to hold me accountable is probably the best thing I have ever done (in all aspects of life, not just IM)

And my biggest problem is not keeping myself in day to day routine/discipline, checking emails frequently, checking pms on forums etc.

These things eat lots of time.
