My Business Plan. Please Help.

Hello Warriors,

I'm literally a few weeks into Internet marketing, but today I had my biggest Internet marketing "ah ha" moment.

I've come up with a business plan, but there are crucial elements of Internet marketing I need to learn asap, to allow me to generate an income from my plan.

The Business Plan.

Choose Niche - Create website - Find or create content - generate traffic - and hopefully start generating some cash (from the traffic)

Does this seem a good idea to you? am i being to ambitious after only looking at Internet marketing for a couple of weeks? Should I find another plan?

I was hoping someone here can help me by pushing forward and recommending some highly regarded internet marketers to listen to. Or point me to some quality video material for beginners (video is how i respond best).

I'm trying to learn as much as possible on the following:
  • Website Creation
  • Producing Content
  • Traffic
  • And Any Crucial Elements of Internet Marketing YOU Feel Is Essential

As you can see my head is all over the place, I don't want to start my business with the knowledge I have.

Kindest Regards.

Might want to be a bit more specific, as in:

    What kind of website?
    What kind of content?
What methods for creating traffic are you using?
Who's paying you for this traffic?

These questions are rhetorical as I wouldn't expect anyone to just dish out their plan, but basically, if you're unsure of how to answer those, then maybe you should consider finding out.

      Thanks for your response.

I have several ideas for niches which will take care of the website and content.

I have ZERO experience in traffic, all i know is ezine articles, social bookmarking, paid traffic, and some offline marketing methods i wish to employ. other than that im screwed, at the moment i would end up having three visitors a month if im luck.

To start I think it maybe clickbank, but definitely afilliate marketing someone else's product.

  • In my experience, that isn't an overall business plan. That's a fundamental online marketing plan, which is a sub set of an overall marketing plan, and an overall marketing plan is a sub set of an overall business plan. To clarify:

A person's overall financial portfolio should be comprised of the following things:

    • Sustainable Income
    • Credit and Network Resources
    • Savings
    • Assets
    • Investments

Now, a plan to establish sources of sustainable income is a sub set of your overall financial portfolio. And, a plan to leverage your credit and network resources, once you have established significant sources of sustainable income, is a sub set of your plan to improve or add sources of sustainable income, which is a sub set of your overall financial portfolio. Then, a plan to leverage your credit and network resources to grow your sustainable income and establish your savings is a sub set of your plan to improve or add credit and network resources, which is a sub set of your plan to improve or add sources of sustainable income, which is a sub set of your overall financial portfolio. Next, a plan to leverage your savings to establish assets is a sub set of your plan to improve or add savings from your growing credit and network resources that will in turn improve or add sources of sustainable income to your overall financial portfolio. Then, a plan to leverage these things in order to establish, improve and grow your investment portfolio is a sub set of these things, which are in turn sub sets of your overall financial portfolio. At this point:

As your investments grow in terms of profitability, it adds to your sustainable income sources, credit and network resources, savings, assets and the possibility of investing in other viable ventures...

I really do appreciate that. Thats enlightening and will something ill definitely consider once i gain more knowledge of internet marketing.

I have this hold over me that doesnt want to "start the ball rolling" until i feel i understand enough.

You are making the same mistake that I made when I first started, and that is ignoring list building. The sooner you start list building the better.

You rankings will drop and rise, depending on how SE`s view your site, and will most likely change again when they change their ranking algorithms, on the other hand, you will always have your list, if you create one and treat it well.

Also, don`t try do too much yourself. If you have the cash, outsource stuff like webdesign.

As far as material goes, this is very subjective, what works for me might not work for you, so try a few different options from the WSO section of this site. Trust me, if you want to succeed in this business, you wont buy one, you will buy many (over time). You will hate some, love some, its your price of admission.

List building was in my mind but that will also be something to study asap so i can create content for the list ( thinking about this, i think this is the most scariest part, not building the list the treating them well part, and professional communication via email over the course of the email campaign to the list.)

I was planning to use "wordpress direct" (anyone recommend them or a similar company?) at least until i have money to pay a web designer (not cheap i would imagine)

I am also a big believer in list building and relationship building this is something that you want to build over the long-term to build predictable sales at some point.

That's a pretty solid 'initial' strategy. But what you need to clarify with yourself is what niche you are going to go into (preferably one which is of a 'desperate' nature, i.e. weight loss, dating and relationships etc) and what type of content you are planning to distribute to your site (video, text, etc) and what ways you are going to generate your traffic (free, paid). After all, this is what's going to make or break your business.

Also, I'd advise you to incorporate an autoresponder (aweber, getresponse) into your business plan as that will be your true asset and hopefully provide you with long-term sustainability... providing you "give, give, give" before you "take".

    Best of luck!

Thanks for your inspiring words i will put them in my action plan to look over, thank-you.

If im being totally honest its all a bit overwhelming and Its making me want to learn tons more strangely enough.

I guess my problem is i dont have a big budget, i want to start small and promotes peoples products and collect click bank cheques, learn and study hard improving and tweaking a low level site that i have until i have enough knowledge, money and confidence to roll out a mid level site.

Information Overload has been something that EVERYONE has suffered from mate, don't worry, you're not the only one.

Best thing to do dude is stick with ONE business model that is physically and financially viable for yourself and ignore EVERYTHING else that's happening outside of your business model.

They may sound glamorous and tempting, but there's no point dropping your current business model for something completely new just because results are taking too long, or you are getting tired of the model you're emulating. Just a little advice, not a dig. Keep FOCUSED

Do you think I've chosen a good model for a beginner?

          You've really inspired me. Thankyou.

I just wish I knew where to start on some of the more complex topics, I dont have a lot of money right now, and im to skeptical of most products. I'm currently looking for free solid courses in areas i need to study.

From memory WP-Direct is just hosted autoblogging software.

I'm sure it has it's place, but it's for sure not how I would start.

If you're using WPD then you're hoping to get ranked in Google I assume, and that's a game that I believe you just can't win long term, because Google reserves the right to change the rules of the game at any time (and fair enough, it's their site).

Personally, I don't think that WPD is a good long term strategy with all of the Google updates that have been happening.

Another issue is that if you're playing the SEO game then your business is relying on a 3rd party site in order to make money. There are plenty of threads on the forum (one new one right now) that shows that when you rely on a 3rd party site for your money then you're just one step away from losing it all.

That applies to FB pages, Ebay, Google/MSN, or any MLM that you care to name.

I'd rather have a list that I own, that can't be taken away from me.

    IMO I'd say:

    1. Build a funnel (or pay someone to build one for you)
    2. Buy a copywriting course and learn how to optimize your funnel.
    3. Start buying traffic (I prefer solo ads, but there are plenty of other types - main point is choose ONE type of traffic and become a specialist in it)
    4. Test and modify like crazy until you're getting decent ROI on your traffic.
    5. Use your funnel to build a list
    6. Create a solid relationship with your list and market to them as well.

Website creation may depend on what you are selling, how, and where.

Content is the crux of it. Although being a good technical writer and/or copywriter helps, YOU have to determine the info, etc...

There are plenty of traffic sources. If you have been on the internet for any amount of time, you know the big ones. Specifics would take a while to explain.

    Again, elements depend.
