It only went down for a single day? That's nothing to worry about. There's a problem if the trend continues though.

There will be daily fluctuations. We all get them.

And when your numbers are on the low side, any change is really noticeable.

All I can do is to encourage you to press on. Just keep doing what you know works.

At most, look at your stats just once per week. Every two weeks would be better. If you see a steady decline after a fortnight, then evaluate what you've been doing differently.

But don't worry if it happens over short periods of time.

sometimes these things just happen, traffic just like income in this business goes up and down, someday I make over $2,500 in sales some days a make under a $100 I think it's just a natural flow of things.

from 173 visits to 31, 8 and none.

Did you check your logs? Could probably due to a glitch in the tracking mechanism. I think you'll see your traffic pick up again tomorrow. What is your site? How are you marketing? Do you market everyday?

Where do you get your traffic from? Is that from search engines? It could be the ranking for your major keywords are down in Google. Hard to know the exact reasons without other details about your website.

MY PROBLEM FIXED: UPDATE

I just fixed my problem. The problem was a 404 redirect in all my pages except the home page and the dashboard. Good thing, I figured this out early. My website has been getting really low traffic for two days. If I never figured this out early, then I'm pretty sure that I will be doomed.

The Possible Reason:

This might have been caused by the recent wordpress update.

The Solution:

On the 'Permalinks' page, I changed the "Common Settings" from 'Day and Name' to 'Custom Structure: /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/"

Yes I have Google Analytics and that's the reason why I know why my traffic went down. I'm checking it everyday.

Yes, I checked my keyword ranking using Serpfox and it's still going up. My main keyword is at 6 and the other keywords are 7, 8 , 25, and 30+

I think you are worrying more than needed. I have sites where I might occassionally get twice more visitors than average. And there are also days when I get like 4 times less traffic than average. It is natural and dont worry about it. You cant and should not make predictions based on one day. Just keep monitoring it closely for one week, and only then you can decide if there's something wrong or not.

When such things happen, the first thing i do is always check on my server side first and website first. If everything is okie then it could due to google update, or other traffic source...

At least we learnt something..tracking could help us to identify problems earlier..

I know I'm quite late to the conversation but I feel like this issue could of been identified and sorted much quicker if your site was linked with a Google Webmaster Tools account. With WMT, you can track errors on your site, any indexation issues, as well as links back to your site. This is only scratching the surface of it's capabilities, but you would have quickly seem a "Traffic Drop" message in WMT and been able to see that a page was 404ing. I recommend you sign up ASAP.
