Should I keep my blog focused on one topic?

I heard that having several unrelated pages can be less effective than having all pages related in a consistent theme. Is there any negative effect to having different topics scattered throughout my blog?

The ball is in your court, it depends on how well you play.

It's almost everybody's choice to stick to one niche which is ok but how about the news blogs/site that carries different categories and news.

Well, it depends on your plan and what you can do and how far you are ready to go.

I just thought I would bring your attention to this one line because John hit the nail on the head! Planing is instrumental to any success online, if you don't plan out what you want to do then you have no chance and your be guessing what you want to do next. Do the correct research, let your research build part of your plan for you!!

Definitely stick to one topic. If you want to post about a different topic then you should probably start a new blog.

I would say that you should stick to one main topic but you can include related branching topics.

Think of it like a tree, your main topic (Let's say it's IM) is the trunk and the sub topics are the branches (Like SEO for example). This way you keep your blog focused on one subject but you don't miss out on other topics which may also be related.

A blog with related pages is great for search engine rankings as search engines will know what your site is all about. A targeted blog will also keep you ass safe in the eyes of big G as they will not ban your Adsense account due to very low ctrs.

You need to have one theme per blog. This is in part because of how the search engines work but also because if I'm looking for stuff on IM, why would I want to read something about dating or sports or gardening? I wouldn't. It's just messy. Most importantly, it will drastically decrease your sales. I'm speaking from the point view of both a marketer and a blog follower.
