I am posting links to my site's articles on my twitter & fb accounts. I do get some traffic from fb, but none from twitter. Can you please share your experience about getting traffic from twitter.

Do you have a lot of followers?
You need a lot of followers to create traffic. As a matter of fact you need followers who are interested in your tweets. Not just random followers

I think the number of friends/fans (Facebook) and followes (twitter) you have make a difference. What is your facebook/twitter ratio?

  • Post consistently and make sure your tweets are eye-catching. Treat your tweet like a headline. If your tweets catch attention and make people curious, then you'll get more traffic from it.

Targettting the right people is key here.

Make use of the Twitter Search capabilities:

      Example:

      buy dog food ? -RT

** Search for anyone that has tweeted a question about buying dog food and is not re-tweeting.

Once you have this list then replay to these people with your message or start interacting ...

Avoid from sounding hype in your tweets and don't forget targeting your website #tag keyword

I'll tell you a little about my marketing research experience with Twitter and maybe it will help:

Basically, you need to do a lot of following and it needs to be for a "cool" niche that people care about. Niches like insurance and loans don't have much appeal. Justin Bieber and iPods do.

What I used to do - and anyone who wants to use this advice, be my guest - in order to QUICKLY build up followers so that I could then follow more people daily, is create a Justin Bieber Twitter page and then follow "beliebers". A much higher percentage of Justin Bieber fans will follow you back more than any other group.

When you get to over 400 followers, then you switch to whatever you really want to market and start following people in your niche to the tune of 400-600 a day.

If you have an interesting niche, you'll start getting traffic. I made money with Adsense this way and then flipped the websites from the revenue generated within a month per site.

You'll lose some Bieber followers once you switch, but not before you already have a sizeable group of followers in your own niche.

My research shows that the number of followers you HAVE does not matter much....you won't get a lot of traffic from followers you already have. The key is to constantly follow NEW people, and a certain percentage of them will check your site out and click on your Adsense ads and Amazon ads but to a lesser extent.

Twitter is very good social networking site to drive online traffic on your site or blog but to get more traffic on your site or blog your must want to post link of your site on other social networking sites as Google+ , Facebook and other which have a lot traffic on it .

I think social media is hit and miss.
Does anyone really read their daily tweets?

There a two type of twitter followers: random followers who are looking for followers or follow anything and anyone; and then there are follower who have an genuine interest in what you offer. It is the genuine followers you need. When some is is following 10,000 others chances are they dont ever even read tweets sent out by others.

I get a small amount of traffic, but not too much (so far).

Following the right people is key, obviously. They have to actually be interested in what you're tweeting.

Also, tweet like a real person. I see so many accounts that just throw up links left and right; it seems to have a positive effect when you post throughout the day.
