Newbie seeking a few tips

Hi Everyone

I have just joined WF but I have been watching posts on here for some time and I have to admit I'm hooked.

Last year I had a flurry of success with my Youtube channel. Basically I am a music producer, entrepreneur and fairly successful DJ for high profile events here in London UK. I compose electronic music in my studio and recently been writing some themed music. Last year I put together some Halloween themed music which are available on itunes and produced a short video advert for YouTube to promote the Halloween themed music. It is an average video, nothing special at all. I monetized the video and added the right keywords, submitting a few links to forums in this topic and a few other little tricks and the video reached about 8,000 + views over September / October last year and earned just over £100.00 in revenue from the views within this time period.

What I would like to know is, am I doing the right thing by targeting a trend or seasonal topic?

It has stopped getting views now so it has stopped making any revenue until next Halloween (obviously). I am going to post up the themed music in it's entirety as a stream on Youtube so hopefully this Halloween 2013 I will get some more views on 3 videos and hopefully make some more revenue.

I would really appreciate some helpful tips if you experienced IM people have any regarding Youtube. I have purchased and downloaded a set of videos on here called Youtube Bully which is a very good source of information and I am willing to invest in more marketing tools. Market Samurai is also a very good software tool that I recently purchased.

Any tips would be appreciated and hopefully I can contribute tips on here in the near future as I continue with my journey into IM.

Many thanks

Steve (Numatik)

    Hi Numatik,

If you've made £100 - which is about $160 - with your first online venture, then you deserve congratulations!

Looks like you've carved yourself out a valuable niche.

So all you need do is to think up more seasonal themes: St Patrick's (March 17) ... Easter ... Thanksgiving and - before you know it, you should be picking up some more cash from your Hallowen music.

    That's real passive income!

It will pay you to come up with some good keywords and then create a good description, using up to 500 words, which should use your main keyword three times plus some related keywords. That should get your videos served to even more viewers for increased revenue.

    Well done you!

    Warmest regards,

    Paul

You are absolutely doing the right thing!

I have several seasonal videos that get traction throughout the year.

I made this video in 2009 and every time Top Chef premieres on BRAVO I get a ton of new comments and traffic:

"Top Chef" Tom Colicchio "Meatloaf Recipe" by Mark Kaye - YouTube

Also, try jumping on major trends and news stories...especially entertainment! If you do some videos with major celebrities in your keywords and titles then you will get consistent traffic!

Here's a video I did with a local guy named "Justin Bieber!"

Justin Bieber Back On Facebook and Singing Baby WAPE 95.1 - YouTube

Gets traffic every time the OTHER Justin Bieber pops up in the news!

Make sure you keep cranking out videos. The more you have out there the more revenue you will make.

    Good luck!

I just sent Mark a PM thanking him for this post he made a couple of hours ago in this thread. He gave some great advice to Steve (Numatik - OP) and provided examples of what he has done.

I hope the other Warriors also pick up on a lesson that is between the lines of both Mark and Steve's remarks. Both showed a side of their personality and their humanity. In addition both showed the capability of thinking out of the box.

Now lets put on our thinking caps and see what we can come up with for ourselves that is a little out of the box.

Yes Ken I agree Mark really did give me some cool tips and examples.

I personally think that we should all just enjoy the journey regarding IM and if we can supply advice and tips along the way even if you are learning the craft (like me) there is always a way to find out new thinks and pass on knowledge.

And you know what they say 'Knowledge is power'

    WOW thanks guys,

Yes I was extremely excited when I was watching my adsense account topping up a little daily for a while. It was only in between $3.00 - $7.00 a day but over the 2 months it was mounting up and then wahoo I managed to earn some money

I am looking at another trend coming up soon which should hopefully bring in some money over the coming months so it's back to the drawing board for plans on the best way to get the video good enough to attract visitors.

    Thanks again for your tips

You should use SENuke along with UAW to get some traffic for your videos at Youtube. It is also important to hire a SEO expert at Elance or Odesk to accelerate your pace in getting traffic.

    Hi Mark

Yes I love the Top Chef video. It's great to see interaction with kids as they can be so funny.

I have a 5 year old daughter who loves talking to my ipad and recording it with the video. I have about 20 clips of video that I want to string together to make one really funny video as she talks in double dutch in most of the videos but it's very funny so hopefully that could work all year round.

I noticed you have 20,000 plus views in a few years. Is that through natural views? I've heard of the Youtube view sites that sell them but there is quite a lot of negative feedback with them and adsense etc.

I guess I would just need to optimize the videos and post links to social networks etc.

      Hi Steve!

Yep all of my traffic to YouTube is organic. The key is to quickly post videos on subjects that are ALREADY being searched.

When Gilbert Gottfried was fired by AFLAC I posted this video about an hour later:

New Aflac Duck Commercial Voice Auditions | Gilbert Gottfried Fired - YouTube

It was picked up by AOL and a couple of other outlets. Because I was first out of the gate and because I keyworded the title and description appropriately I was able to get some incredible traffic.

Ride the tide of trending topics! Don't try to start a new tide. It's almost impossible!

Yes I thought that would be the trick.

I have something in mind which would be very profitable if done right

SENuke or any auto-linking service will destroy your rankings overnight.

Make sure to not use them at all costs.

Long-term success requires you use only white-hat techniques and not seek out 'short cuts'. I'm sure you've perused the forums here long enough to see that's true.

I've had clients see their rankings drop overnight because they outsourced these products and their rankings were unrecoverable.

      Thank you 'Google Penguin Update'.

Well yes I have heard this. I don't really want to pay the subscription costs anyway tbh.

So I guess the White Hat techniques of good old hard work SEO, natural linking etc are the best methods then?

Sounds like you have found a profitable business model. Now it's just time to scale up!

Find different holidays, events, trends, spoofs even that you can take advantage of...

For example, find some inspirational quotes or recordings and mix it with something your style, market it as inspirational or workout music... whatever

you get where I'm going with all this you can find endless possibilities!

I did a spoof video back in late November for the 21st December Mayan Calendar
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isgOzsegvoU

Lots of views but not much adsense revenue unfortunately

I suppose it's just a matter of keep on producing videos and see what works with clicking on ads from viewers etc.

I recommend you to not just have videos, but get this out into the social network. Get your videos on bogs, facebook, and forums related to your topic. Your viewers attention span will always change, and that is why you should focus on getting new music out to your viewers or listeners through the social network.

    Hi Steve,

The first thing I want to do is to say congrats on your first and small success online.

I would do the same thing that you have done for other holidays in all of the religions. You can do one for Christmas, New Year's, Passover, Hanukka, Labour day weekend, Thanksgiving, Jewish Rosh Hashana, 4th of July, etc.

    Or.....

You can create more videos for Halloween using other keywords.
