Building an engaged fan page takes really knowing your audience

It's the darnedest thing with my audience, but I've found that with them, pretty-much the opposite of everything the experts say should work is that works with my followers.

The experts say one of the best ways to engage your fan page audience is to do polls. They bomb every time with my audience.

Videos? A must according to the experts. My audience? Meh. A couple of likes maybe.

And text posts should be very short, no more than x number of words and Xnumber of lines, or they won't be read, right? Not my audience. Long, simple text status updates, which all the experts say are the kiss of death on your fan page, get more engagement on my page than anything else I do.

It just goes to show that when it comes to fan pages, nothing really beats just learning what your audience likes and posting it at the right times.

I finally figured that out after about the 3rd "shiny fan-page engager-builder" product I bought, which just sat there on my page charging me a monthly fee while everyone ignored it and went straight to my wall.

I was paying $30 a month for one "fan page builder" just to have a custom tab or two at the top with an opt-in form and another one for a booking widget. I think 4 people used the opt-in form in the last 6 months, and nobody's ever used the booking widget.

People go straight to your wall when they land on your page and they seldom look anywhere else- that's been my experience at least. Fb still generates more of my traffic to my site than anything else, and aside from a promoted post here and there, all I do is try to post a couple of things a day of the type of content they've responded to best in the past. So now, I've decided to spend my money on things that optimize the sales funnel at my site and improve my conversions, rather than fancy facebook tools and software.

It takes some time, trial and error and attention to what days, times and things they respond to best, but when you start figuring it out engagement will go up. And most of that can be done free.

Just be open to the likely-hood that works for your followers may be the exact opposite of what the experts say should work. It took a long time for that to sink in for me. Hopefully I can save you some time and money. The wall is where it all happens.

Yeah I've experienced a taste of this also. I tried polls but not to many people liked or participated in it.

After a lot of trial and error I was able to find the right way to attract my audience though
