Indian Virtual Assistants?

Have any of you worked with Indian virtual assistants? Is a fair wage less than a Filipino virtual assistant? What was your experience like?

You won't get a concrete answer to this question. The experiences of people vary. Some people have such amazing Indian workers that they swear by them, but then there are other fraudulent and lazy bugs as well who have brought a bad name to that entire community. I have never hired a virtual assistant so far, but I think they must be efficient because the biggest organizations today are outsourcing their work to India.

Have no idea regarding VA from India, but had experience on hiring part time VA from Vietnam. Their rate is good and their SEO skill is superb.

Philipo assistants tend to master the English language better and charge less than their Indian counterparts. However, you need patience and a lot of tests to get a virtual assistant that gets the job done. Odesk and Elance are great places to find them.

Personally I much prefer working with PH va's. In my experience (and this is just my personal experience) I've found them to be a lot more honest and hard working.

    And cheaper.

Regardless of which country you use though, the main factor that I've found in success with va's is how good your processes are.

If you have set checklists of tasks that need to be done, and screen capture video on exactly how it should be done, so that there is no ambiguity, then you're on the right track.

If you expect them to be able to work it out for themselves then you'll have to get a lot more expensive, as you'll need someone at a professional level, or if you do go cheap you'll get worked over as the VA won't be sure what to do, and will either sit there doing nothing (giving all sorts of excuses as to what's going on) or they'll just disappear.

It's the McDonalds principle. "If you want to hire cheap, then your processes need to be awesome!"

Based on what I have heard, $4/hour might be considered a decent employed rate. If I apply decent US standards, that means $8/hour for an independent. That is in line with what indians have told me.

Your experience may vary. Take into account that they WERE THE foreign place to go, so they may expect more.

No a concrete answer to this question as Raindance said! It depends on each vendor.
