How to Promote Local Site and .Com with Same Content

I can't seem to figure this one out.

Site A - Is my site for a local (Canadian) offline business which does quite well but I want to take it up a notch. I have approximately 500 articles that I can post, targeting my local area.

Site B - Is my future site whereby I will be promoting my book series.

Here lies the problem, both Site A and Site B are in the same niche. I can, and would like to use the same content but feel it might not be a good idea to put the same content on both sites. (I really don't want to rehash the thread on 'Duplicate Content')

Any thoughts?

Is there a way I can target my local area, while, at the same time, promote my books on a global scale?

Or do I have to create 2 unique sites and alter the content?

Your input is appreciated.

If you can rank a site globally and also use local methods (Maps etc.) to stand out on them searches then you can rank one site for both, as Google will know it is a local business.

Before putting both on one domain think about whether or not you'll want to sell the business site in the future.

If you put the same content on the book site (site B) and it's already been indexed on the local site (Site A), then the content is there for people to read when they find you but Site A gets the Google juice from the articles.

If you use 2 sites then you should put your own ad and/or links from A to B since they are in the same niche.

Rewriting some of the same articles to use on B to make them original shouldn't be too difficult if you just think of doing one article at a time. When you think about 500 articles it can be totally overwhelming.

With that much material and a wee bit of rewriting you can use your content to receive double exposure, in other words as long as your next website is hosted with a different hosting company or IP address and you simply do not copy and paste (rewrite selective material, avoid auto spinning) you can show up in the SERP on page one two times doubling your chances Someone will click on your website. (I'm assuming you also know how to do off page SEO)
