Using a Wordpress blog for a membership

INTERNET MARKETING

I have a number of membership scripts already but was wondering if there was a way of using a wordpress blog for a membership and securing that only members have access

I've never seen anything like it but it'd be a neat plugin.

Potential feature list -

- Mark posts/pages as member only
- Those posts don't appear in the main list unless you're logged in
- Allow paid sign up
- Allow free sign up for partial content
- Protect downloads etc

Anything else people would want?

Wordpress really is a fantastic platform!
For all things wordpress - go ask Houdy! You will find him here in the forums or at:WordPress Max|WordPress Guides For The Geek Impaired
You can also read a heap of great guides or watch tutorials etc at his site.

You're right and I bought your WSO and I thought it was a good deal. Of course your IPN implementation isn't always good because you can only use one IPN for every single product you sell so you need to open multiple paypal accounts which isn't that great if you're selling a ton of products. And of course is against PayPal's TOS to have more than two accounts (a personal and business/premier account).

There are heaps of free options available if you search around. I found most of them had limitations so developed my own. I'll be adding features moving forward like integration with clickbank etc. and any other feature requests that will help improve the plugin.

  I asked the very same question last week, since google really likes Word Press and it was an established site, we decided to use Word Press on the main directory and hook the membership up to it using DLG, you can have a peak in my sig.

I've not tried it yet but Membershipsitescript.com claims to do it (not an aff link).

"Can be Used with WordPress, Blogs and Forums - That's right you can use this script even if you have a blog, a forum, or both that you want to charge to have access to."

  aMember can protect the blog directory- but you'd need a license for each site.
  You may also want to think about allowing teaser text and creating levels of access. Check out my sig for a demo.

  I have set up several membership sites using WordPress. I use JV Manager Fantasos to secure the members areas of the blogs, but any software that can password protect a directory should work.
  
  You can have it set up several different ways. Either have a link on your salespage entitled, "Member's Login" that links to your protected blog directory, "membersonly", for instance. Or you can create a blog with a link to the protected "membersonly" area.
  
  If you use the same blog theme on your main site as in your "memberonly" area the transition from main site to members area is pretty seamless.

  As Tony said, any script that accepts payments and issues accounts to a protected directory should work. I've done the same thing with Wordpress and IMSC. IMSC is an inexpensive solution, but does have limitations including a requirement to manually delete cancelled subscriptions.

  I'd suggest using DLGuard if you don't have it already.
  
  Just create the Wordpress blog, say at a URL like - http://www.yourdomain.com/vip-blog - and then use DLGuard to protect the folder with your membership blog (vip-blog in this case).
  
  I intend on using this setup myself for a future project... but know that fellow Warrior Brian McElroy has used it successfully with a few of his recent releases.

  Tony thats an excellent suggestion. I have seen some membership sites use wp with JVM and now I am working on creating my membership site with wp and JVM. These are two scripts that have great flexibility in what you want to do.

  This is the one that's won out for me so far regarding value and features. It can allow teaser text and everything you want. $50 one-time.
  
  They also have a nifty $15 script to make sure multiple people don't abuse the login. (aka posting it on forums, warez, etc.)

I don't know why you couldn't do this I have a Forum up and running on one of my wordpress blogs and it seems to be working fine.
