INTERNET MARKETING

Is there such a thing as becoming a reseller for a "just-plain" email service?

And/or, how difficult is it to set up a stand-alone email system (like a mini yahoo or gmail)?

Assuming you are aware of the hardware and maintenance costs (both in terms money and hard, hard, HARD work) that would come with running any email service worth its salt, you would basically need a software like SocketMail :: PHP Webmail and beyond (non-aff link) to act as the front end, a decent MTA that delivers the email (PowerMTA comes to mind - it's about $15k to $20k per license) and the most robust server you can get.

These guys are making $$ (judging by their advertising budget (yeah, I know that doesn't necessarily mean profits))...

So, I was wondering how easy/hard would it be to start something like that with a smaller niche "universe." Kinda like offering a "vanity" niche-related email address for a monthly/yearly fee.

Easy? Hard?
