Check with Go Daddy and other domain registrars.

Why? Based on what happened to me, I'm guess they invest automatically in buying some domains when they come up for renewal and are not renewed.

What happened? I got a domain name through a service when I first started out.
Then they owned it - but they got it from Go Daddy. So I ended up in a situation where I could not renew the domain because I was not the owner. The service did not renew the domain.

But?! Afterwards, because it was hosted by Go Daddy, and had been built up to a good page rank, that site became available for sale as a domain name.

I chose not to purchase it.

I noticed no one else did, either, and over time the asking price was reduced.

So I'd suggest you look for sites that have expired with any companies that do this type of investment in domains that don't get renewed on time.

Hope this helps. Just my second post here so feedback appreciated.

Expiredomains.net and justdropped.com are great places to find the type of domain you are looking for. It is important to know that you might be tempeted to buy sites that are already dropped, imean with parking ads on them since the owner left them expire. You can use the ewayback machine to add the old pages of the sites, and hope that Google keeps the page with its page rank.

You should also understand that Google ranks pages not sites, and even when you see a site ranked, it is not te site but the page that big g has ranked.

I always buy my domains through expireddomains.net
You can see there if the pr is fake or not and many other variables that give the domain more value.

      After watching the recent Google Panguin update wipe out, buying old domains is the way to go. Places to buy aged domains;
      1. Godaddy's auction place, it probably has the largest selection of expired domains online.

      2. findageddomains.com, with thousands of aged domains added every day, its also a hot spot

www.expireddomains.net or auctions.godaddy.com really are two of the best options as others have mentioned already from my experience.

    Hi,

I am not sure if you have heard about Flippa, you can buy aged domains on Flippa. The best part here is that you would get the detailed traffic report and earning potential at Flippa.

Also you can look at Digital Forum where you could get good deal, off course another place is Warrior Forum Complete Website for sale section.

Buying a expired domain name is a good idea.Because aged domain have good page rank.To check the domain name keyword status, ranking etc..you can use the site Google Rank checker Rank Finder Position checker Google Position Checker .To confirm domain expiration date using whois lookup tool like Whoisxy.com and get further details of domain ownership.

This is an old thread, but since it's been bumped - why buy an AGED EXPIRED domain? It resets to zero when it expires, the PR could disappear entirely or lose most of it. After a few weeks of searchbots spidering non-existent inner pages that may have been passing PR and authority you could be left just starting with a blank index page, and if you're lucky other webmasters who were linking to might notice and remove their links. And you don't know if there's any bad "baggage" tied to the domain.

Try registercompass.org. It's like domcop.com but drills down into more detail and options.
