Alternate Methods of Traffic?

Facebook, youtube, email lists.

Had great succes after launching a social media contest on facebook, then for 14 days there where coming about 1000 visitors a day to a very new website, with no more than 40 daily visitors from google.

Paid... ppc, cpv, media buys, articles, etc.
Email... rented lists, purchased lists, coreg, etc.
Social... FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, etc.
Word of Mouth...
Gun to the head...

Besides SEO are many other ways of getting traffic to your website.

PPC: not recommended for newbies and broke people
Social media: great if you just want to generate leads or offer free info
Article marketing: awesome and UAW will help you a lot.
Forum posting and blog commenting

Try Youtube, Facebook, Twitter or Solo Ads....

PPC is the quickest without doubt, but you need a regular budget, learn it properly and its fairly predictable, find an ad and landing page that work, then just decide how many leads/sales you want daily and scale it up, if your budget allows, the majority of my traffic comes from bing & fb, that said i outsource article writing and publish 15-20 every week for i call residual traffic

I already thought of social media type stuff such as YT/FB, but a lot of the other stuff posted here I didn't think about yet.

there are so many different ways to get traffic it's insane, the most importnat thing to knwo about traffic is to test!

anytime you come across a new traffic source make sure to test it out for your self and use tracking links to determine how much traffic your getting from each source, and how many sales conversions.

Make sure your not just testing out a bunch of different traffic methods without knowing what is producing results. Once yo uknwo which traffic methods are most fruitful for you, you can them prioritize them and do the most important ones first and eliminate the time wasters.

As for traffic, I have to tell you, tube is sometimes too crowded. In that case, take a taxi.

Earlier we used to categorize the online traffic broadly into 2 categories:

Paid Traffic & Organic Traffic but nowadays we categorize it into 3 :

Paid Traffic or Inorganic Traffic
Organic Traffic
Referral Traffic, which is mostly considered as Social media traffic.

Right Now you are receiving traffic from only organic method so you can try out the other two.

Paid traffic is considered as PPC, various ads campaigning, sponsored post etc.

And Referral traffic mainly considered as Facebook, Twitter and traffic which comes directly from other website.

Real-Time-Bidding if you can cough up the fees. Insane amounts of traffic & dirt-cheap too.

Yahoo Answers is still a great source of targeted traffic - as long as you give good, valuable answers that actually help, the reader will click on your source link (to your site).

You can try using Facebook, Twitter and Google+ to get natural traffic. But before you that, you need to build relationship to other users to they would click the URL you suggested.

Social media is great!
Facebook is a winner and Twitter is also good.

Youtube is also great at getting traffic.

Social bookmarking and forum marketing are also extremely powerful

Try not to think of links being purely about SEO, getting links from other websites can get more traffic as people follow those links. Traffic is traffic, regardless of the impact on your search engine ranking.

Posting on blogs and forums
Post subtle promotions in your forum and blog posts, and become an active and respected member of popular forums/blogs. Once you are a valuable member of a forum or blog, people will be more likely to follow the links you post.

Submitting articles to article directories
Submitting articles to article directories is a great way to get traffic and backlinks at the same time.

Paid traffic is the fastest and targeted ( if you know what you are doing).
YouTube is definitely a must these days.
Focused on one and scaled the results as time goes.
Too many methods tend to spoilt the focus.

Of course, pay per click, pay per view, ezine ads, banner ads, content syndiation

Solo ads work great if you have a good sales funnel in place.

Ad swaps are great as well.

An alternative that I use is to drive related traffic through this related content plugin I use
WordPress › Cross-Promotion Content Recommendations by Engageya « WordPress Plugins
It shows my related posts at the end of a post, plus related posts on other websites, so it's cool to get new pips on my site this way.
