Quick Question Warriors!! Got a good domain name, I think!

Hey guys, just found a good domain name, the keyword is in the domain with the word "tricks" added to it. It is searched over 27,000 times a month, "exact" searches.

The keyword has LOW competition too.

What do you think it could be worth?

If it was magictricks dot com, then possibly worth a bit, otherwise most likely not worth much at all.

EMD (Exact Match Domains) are not that favored or valuable after Google changed the algo and stop favoring them in SERPS.... Personally I would not commit to any domain or website only on the bases of EMD availability... I would only buy and develop it if i really wanted to build the valuable site... as Lot of time in the past, i wasted in this madness of EMD and buying domains i was not interested , and just bought only as i was lucky to find those hidden gems... how wrong i was... I request you focus and build your authority sites, and you do not have to worry about the Keyword in the domain.....!

    Hope this help,
    Mohsin

I thought Google targeted low quality emd's, not all emd's.

I support that view. Google is not cracking down on exact match domains but rather "Low quality" exact match domains".

Yes.... I still have some EMDs that are still ranking and others that have tanked big time... depends on the content really.

Something else that no one has mentioned yet is whether the domain has commercial application. "BellyButtonLintTricks" for example, probably doesn't have much money-grabbing ability, duh . . .

"MortgageReducingTricks" on the other hand has some commercial viability.

Obviously we don't know what the name is that you're so high on. Just be aware that its easy to fall in love with your own domain names.

Most of us have a grundle of them just waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the perfect moment to monetize them. Will it be this year?

          Good luck,

          Steve

They sure are taking their time to get around to it. I bought an EMD a year ago that I never ended up doing anything with; it has the default wordpress theme/post/comment combo. Page 2. It doesn't contain the slightest bit of content that is even relevant to the search term. Zero backlinks. Dormant since I installed wordpress.

Google are so damn inconsistent and unpredictable. Maybe that is their intention, so that we concentrate on content strategies on a domain-by-domain basis.

I might make a few pages, get backlinks and get it on page 1 then sell it.

    Could be an idea

It's worth exactly how much someone is willing to pay for it. I have a beautiful oriental rug at home that is an antique, Persian and hand woven. About 20 years ago it was worth $10,000.00 - today people don't want blue so the value is much reduced.

If you put content on the site, can show that you are making money with the URL then it is worth much more than just the name. And only if the URL doesn't have a trademarked company name within the URL.

Check out what URLs are going for on Flippa and anything else close to what you have. If it is really that good then a few months of content, aging and income will only increase the price you can ask.

It depends on a lot of factors. Who would you or the future owner of the url be targeting? How could the url be used to monetize the site? If it is for something that an info product could be created to teach tricks for what the rest of the url is, then it could potentially be worth quite a bit!

It will be worth more to you in traffic if you can use it right, cashing in is not always the answer after all if other thinks its valuable then you should explore how you can use it to build your business, it is a good find though Larry having spoke to you and knowing the domain name myself.

I don't know why people always beat around the bush on this forum.

A domain that has a keyword + a random word no matter how good the competition and ranking for that keyword is worth absolutely nothing.

Obviously there are case where is it valuable, but that is like saying a random lottery ticket is worth millions because it has a potential.

    Just my 2 cents

You should use MarketSamurai to asses the true level of competition in case you are looking for a suitable tool to assess competition. How great the domain name is depens on many factors but it should be brandable and as short as possible.

you may get some type through traffic, ie instead of people using a search engine, they type in the keyword into their browser and put either .com or .net at the end. I would buy it, park it for a while, monitor traffic flow and see if the traffic is worth monetizing

There are keywords which might have no commercial value whatsoever. If the keyword they are searching for has a product for it or there is any other way to actually monetize the site/domain/keyword, it's a different story. But dont forget EMDs are not that "hot" anymore than they once were.

I think ill let it age, get some content on it and build a few backlinks. See how well it ranks for the keyword. If I can get it on page 1 spot 1 on Google, then it should draw a fair amount of traffic. It is related to my niche in a way, so I could draw traffic from that into my blog.

Or use it to help my list!!

  • Consider putting together a basic site on it with some unique content and put it up for a quick sale on Flippa!
They are doing $9 lisitings at the moment so is worth a shot
