I have not been on here in months....and during that time have pretty much neglected my website. Got a new job and had a new baby in the last few months and my IMing efforts went out the window. Now that the baby is here, I am desperate to make some extra cash flow.

I started attempting to build my list about a year ago. Have not put much effort into it, but felt I had to start somewhere. I now have reached the point where I am being charged more, got over 500 (or whatever the number is) subscribers. So, here are my questions.....

1.) Should I delete some of the old subsribers to keep my cost to the $19...I am pretty desperate for money at this point???/

2.) Is there a way to pull up all the people who have not opened passed a certain email and delete them??

3.) I always here that the money is in the list....but the little bit of money I have made from the site has come straight off the site, not through the email links. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong and how to make a list more productive? (The subscribers are in the niche...not random people)

The site is in my sig if it will help give me advice. Alexa...if you are out there I would love to hear from you as well ! Thanks in advance everyone!!

Hmm yeah ive been using aweber for a while also. Just got passed my 500 list members and they wanna up the costs. Have you had at least 1 conversions from your list? Are you sending out email broadcasts periodically?

It could be as easy as just tweaking your emails sent out. I'd keep at it if i were you but if you really really need the money then just put it on pause until your funds are back up.

Conclusion: Change it up and have fun! Split test your emails.

How have your open rates and click-throughs been? Have you mailed on a consistent basis or only mailed once or twice to try and promote something?

This may help you and show you how to use Aweber. It shows you how to clean up your lists.

I have an email series that goes out....I think it has about 6 or seven emails on it. I do not really promote anything until the third email. I have also sent out broadcast along the way.

Since I kind of stops all IMing for a while, I stopped doing anything with aweber. So, I don't know what the open rate has been for the last couple hundred of people. I tried to go on and check today, but for some reason the site won't open on my work computer. When I was checking it a lot it was around 65% (if I am remembering right).

For the last few months I have not sent any broadcast, so the people who signed up originally have not received an email from me in a while. The people who have signed up since I quit working on it atleast got the email series.

Thanks for the link I will check it out.

I have made a few sales here and there from the emails, but not even enough to cover the cost of aweber.

I would not delete them yet.

Start sending them broadcasts and have some sort of a program included there so that you could possibly earn some commissions. You could earn some money and there is also the possibility that you will not earn anything.

Over the next few days, send them a few emails about a program that can get you some commissions.

The key with email marketing and building a list is that you need to bring new and fresh subscribers all the time. Give them value for free but also send then products that can bank you commissions. This is not a hobby but a business where you need to make money.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to say to do. I promote an ebook through clickbank, and I am trying to build a relationship with these people....won't sending them a bunch of offers completed defeat that purpose?!

I have been constantly building my list, just have not been tending to it in the last few months. They have been receiving a free short ebook, then a series of emails, with the ebook being promoted in the third or fourth email (can't remember which). Thanks.

        Hey Brit,

If all your sales are from the site your email strategy isn't working...

There is great news though. Your open rate. Very impressive.

You need to build an email sequence that converts. Make yourself a character. Take 'em on a journey.

        Split-test your emails too...

Thanks, I guess I get that what I am doing is not really working, just not sure why??? As far as the open rate is concerned I am actually quite dissappointed with it. Infertility is a pretty desperate niche (I know...I am in it) and the visitors are very targeted I think I should have atleast 3 / 4 of the people opening....but that is just my opinion . Any suggestions on how to make the list convert?

YOU are your best asset in that business...

I don't know your story. But I can guess. You've struggled. You've felt what they've felt. The lows. And the incredible high of having a beautiful baby.

That's how you need to speak to them.

Don't say, 'I'm infertile. I used this product. It worked for me: LINK'

Tell them your story. Take 'em through the lows and the highs. Get them to like and respect you. And the product is what turned your life around.

            It's the afterthought...

You're right. These women must be desperate. It must be terrible. I can only imagine.

They don't need to be SOLD. They need someone to take them by the hand. To tell them you've felt the same. That there's light at the end of the tunnel. That you managed it.

            'How?' They'll ask.

            Clickbank product.

            It's very low-key.

Use pics of you and your baby. Make YOU the focus of your marketing!

            You can make it work!!!

You should try to educate you list and once they see you as an expert, they will be more likely to purchase from you. If you are in the IM niche, the top sellers in Clickbank will help you. Hiring a copywriter to write your emials is a suitable idea.

Sorry but this is not good advice for me....the whole reason I have been successful at all is because I have built relationships with the viewers. I am in the fertility niche and having someone write for me would defeat the whole purpose.

Here's what I'd do ... create some sort of freebie ie 5 page PDF or quick 'how to' video, and promote it to your list over 3 emails in 10 days. Note who opens/clicks by tagging or exporting those contacts to a new list (we use infusionsoft here so not sure exactly how you'd do it in Aweber) and those are the ones who are still speaking to you. Nuke the rest of the names who don't look at any of the emails, or repeat the exercise (with a different freebie) a week or so later before deleting anybody if you want top make doubly sure.

Thanks! That is a great idea. I guess the only problem would be if they don't open at all, then they would not be unsubscribed. Thanks for taking the time to actually answer my question, not just a thoughtless response .

Start the email apologizing for your absence and explain that it has been a hectic task taking care of your newborn and tending to your everyday household needs.

Most will relate to you being a real person and not a machine that sends out emails.
Awesome idea. See you can add so much humanity and use what you sometimes see as a problem to your advantage. I assume your niche would love to hear about your baby. Again great advice.

Glad I could help. Don't worry about the people who don't open. The more you work on your email marketing the more they will come around. I would not come out selling, but I would get them back and remind them who you are and why you are talking to them.

Try it a few times over the next few weeks. Don't use the same message, but do allow people some time to actually remember you and the baby is a great way to remind the people on your list that marketers are humans also. I think you have a ton of really good stuff to help get you back in with your list and maybe put you at the top.

The money isn't always in the list. Sometimes you will find that driving people straight to your sales letter page will convert better (and cost you less) than building up a group of leads and selling to them. Just because you do email marketing, and build a list... it doesn't mean the money will be there.

Your email marketing may not be the problem... how much traffic are you getting everyday?

I understand that the money is not always in the list but I would think that I could atleast make some extra money out of the list. The people on it are very targeted and really want a solution to their problem. You are right about the traffic....at the moment I am only getting over 100 viewers a day, but at one point I was up to about 800 viewers a day. I know that is nothing to most of you, but I am very new to all this, and have been happy with some of the results so far, just know the site could be a lot more successful than it has been so far. All the viewer feedback is positive, just think it should make more sales. Any suggestions??

I sent the "baby announcement" email, will be interested in seeing how many opens it gets after such a long drought. Thanks again everyone!

If you followed carpozi's excellent advice, you should be starting to win back your readers.

Because you make sales from your blog, I assume you're linking to your blog from your emails? It would be helpful to remind your readers that your blog exists and that it contains helpful info.

It seems to me that you have a powerful advantage - a good personal story to tell.

The first half of my story I sent out a few days ago and I had 190 unique opens out of 488 sent (about 39% open rate). Did not know what to expect after neglecting it sooo long. Of course I had hoped for higher, but I am not too dissapointed. I also had numerous replies thanking me for sending the email, so that is a good note.

Yes, I am linking to my blog from the emails. You're right I do have an advantage in the niche...honestly think that is the only reason I have had any success in it!

What I would do is to write your story and experiences over say five email broadcasts to your list. Make sure that you end your emails on a cliff hanger so that they want to open your next email to find the answer.By the time that you have finished your story of your journey in IVF , you will know the responsiveness of your list. I would then unsubscribe the part of your list who are not opening as they will ultimately cost you money. By this time you have the beginnings of a relationship whereby you can send them to an offer on CB.
I would also write your full story on a Wordpress blog, send your list to your blog and invite interaction from your list and start to communicate that way. Google will love you for that, which you could link to your site. By doing what is also called Guest blogging on other IVF blogs or ezines, you could drive other readers to your blog. On your blog you would have an opt -in form to aweber where you build your list of interested people. Then continue building the relationship and send them offers. This is scaling up your little business into a bigger and growing one, depending on how much work you want to put in. You could easily do a couple of hours in the evening, after baby has gone to sleep.
You can find free tutorials on how to build a wordpress blog on Google or You Tube if you like watching videos. Hope this helps.

Well I dont know what your site is about, but what you can do is establish an email funnel where you write a serious of automated follow-up emails. some messages will be for establishing relationships and preselling to your customers while others will include an affiliate link that you recommend...

You must not have read much of this thread. I am already doing a series of follow-up emails and we have been talking about the niche all through the thread. I am doing all of the "basics", apparently just not doing them well enough, and would like to figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

Lots of great info on this thread about email marketing.

While you state you had over 800 visitors per day (impressive number!), how many signed up for your email list?

Now that you have 100 visitors per day, how many are signing up for you list?

This thread has motivated me to do some more announcements to my list and beef up my follow ups... for that I say thanks.

I think the best advice has been the baby announcement email.

After all you were not only successful once: you were successful twice!

    Congratulations on that!

A number of years ago my wife and I were in the same boat, (unable to get pregnant), we spent thousands... with no luck... (there was a happy ending, but that is another story...)

Point is, we were desperate and a very hungry market. We would have spent any amount of money if it would have helped!

I think you have a great niche here....keep building relationships and as Alan says: keep sending them to you blog! Encourage them to comment and get involved... Stay involved with your subscribers and you will continue to be a success. Also I see you are an Amazon Affiliate you can find countless books, movies and more to review and promote Amazon products...

    Best of luck!

Ya, I was thrilled about the 800 a day, but it didn't last long enough! I was ranking 2 and 3 for my main keyword and on the first page for a lot of other small keywords. I was getting anywhere from 5 to about 10 sign ups a day at that point. (I know that is terrible for the number of viewers, but I am even more concerned with making the people who DO sign up turn in to buyers) At this point I am only getting 1 or 2 sign ups a day.

After all you were not only successful once: you were successful twice!

      Congratulations on that!

A number of years ago my wife and I were in the same boat, (unable to get pregnant), we spent thousands... with no luck... (there was a happy ending, but that is another story...)!
Glad to hear that you and your wife had a happy ending as well! I can relate to the spending thousands!! That is why I had to venture into trying to make money online in the first place .

I know the niche could be very successful for me, it's just making that happen that seems to be the hard part! I do try to be as responsive to the viewers as possible...I always respond to their emails and comments. Hopefully it will eventually pay off.

      Best of luck!
Honestly, I have not done anything with amazon. I signed up ages ago and put those adds on my site (which I should probably just take down not that I think about it ). As for the amazon products would it be counter - productive to promote books from there on the same site as I am promoting the ebook? (considering I stand to make a lot more from the clickbank products.)

      Thanks for the advice!
