right so my client wants his sites design history to be removed from the wayback machine site.
im new to this wayback thing, and not really sure what implications removing the site from the archives will do.. if anyone is familiar with it please help.

i need to know -

how to delete the history from wayback.

how to stop it crawling in the future

and will this effect google spidering the site, and ultimately will it effect my SERP's if i stop the way crawling the site?

cheers in advance guys!

  • How to block it is in the first result here: https://www.google.com/search?q=block+wayback+machine

Removing your info is in the second result: https://www.google.com/search?q=remove+wayback+machine

Just make sure you follow the instructions in regards to your robots.txt file so that you only block wayback machine and not all search engines.
  • I had this same issue myself, since I just opened this account, I can't post links but there is a procedure directly on the wayback site itself, including a script.

Just type in the term "Removing Documents From the Wayback Machine" in Google.
  • Seems to work [sometimes!]
  • thanks for the help guys.. seems if i create the .txt file correctly, it will only exclude wayback and not google. i was worried it would stop google spiders from crawling the site and drop our SERP's..
    fingers crossed all goes well!

thanks again for your insight.. i friggin love warrior forum! and the warriors of course! ha

    • Actually it was Google and the kind Warriors who know how to use it that answered your question

  • The last person I knew who was removing old web content from the WayBackMachine was fabricating his past to create a more lucrative future.

He was deleting his real business history (and his-story) so he could create a new, super-sexy version of events and his product.

Last I heard he laid all the money from a seminar on his hotel room bed and rolled in it.

Happy as a pig in s...

Happy as a pig in muck.

The sad thing is IMHO if he simply told the truth he'd have been accepted and equally successful anyway.
