How To Allow Guest Posting?

Hey warriors,

I was thinking today that i wouldn't mind allowing guest posting on my wordpress blog.

Only thing is, i have absolutely no idea how to make it happen:confused:

If anyone could let me know how to make this work on my blog it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Maybe a good idea is to create a video about
you allowing visitors of your site to make a blog post!
You can upload that video on YouTube and optimize it for
    keywords related to guest blogging!
There is google keyword tool which you can use to find out which
keywords are popular for that purpose.
You can also outsource backlinks creation for that video
just to help up your video to be visible on google and youtube
    first page.

I'm not sure, I think you have to create user accounts, but maybe there is a plugin for it.

Make sure you put something on your blog that tells visitors being allowed to guest post. Include the right combination of keywords for it, make a page. Once it gets indexed in the search engines, if there's not too much competition for your keywords, might come up as a place to post guest blog posts. Get the writers to come to you. Better quality I think than My Blog Guest.

    Good luck,

If you want to allow or disallow guest posting you just have to allow multiple users to post. I think the option is in the general, reading or writng part of Wordpress as I do not remember right now exactly where it is.

One piece of advice, though, which I strongly urge you to consider...

Have the posts go to 'Draft' status so you can review them prior to publishing. If you don't, I can pretty much guarantee that you will be buried in garbage posts or worse, sooner rather than later. And if you make the lists of the autoposter gang, you might as well fold your tent - you won't be able to delete the crap as fast as it comes in.

Another thing. If you allow outside content, prominently post guidelines for posting. Include the idea that it's your blog and you get to decide what gets published and what doesn't, and that you aren't interested in spending your life debating the subject. That doesn't mean you can't give feedback, but it covers you for declining to argue over whether every declined post should be published.

I allow guest posting on many of my blogs. What I do is setup a Contributor account role for each guest poster. That way they can add their posts but not publish them. I then go in and select what posts to publish and what ones to reject.

    Works very well.

There are two ways you could do this:

    a) Get the WP-Register plugin, allow people to write posts and submit them. The posts go to draft mode, and you get to review them before they are published. Fairly easy, and you don't have to create any accounts for anyone.

    b) Put up a 'Write for us' page on the blog, and give people an e-mail address that they can mail a guest post to. You can write down your guidelines here, and once you have a few people who post a guest blog regularly, you can create an account for them so their work gets published without your review.

The second approach will also get you a few more guest posts as a lot of people search for 'write to us' pages on Google. :-)

Thank rajeevsh for your clear explanation. Now i got a correct idea. The thing i need to ask is how we do guest posting to other sites. Is it helpful for SEO process

The best approach would be to advertise your site as available to guest posters/bloggers at the sites listed above, and also create a "write for us" type page on your blog. Guest posters/bloggers use the term "write for us" in quotes when searching for suitable blogs to contact in google so you could get enquiries that way.

I would stay clear of opening your site up to just anyone initially, and try the approach listed above so you retain control of your site and the quality of posts.

    Hope this helps.

All you have to do is to create a page on your blog and give details about what you want as guest post. Once you have this, whenever someone is trying to look for site to make guest post in your niche using search engine, you blog will be one of the results. Also, you can also ask your visitors to make a post on your site too.

      • I was thinking today that i wouldn't mind allowing guest posting on my wordpress blog.

If your blog is worth all the time you've put into it so far, may I suggest a different approach?

        Don't "allow guest posting."

Rather, seek out people who already write the kind of content you want on your blog.

You see, the problem with the guest-post craze is that everybody thinks they're getting free free free content. But how many are considering if that content is actually optimal for their blog?

There is great power in this post if you take the time to understand it.

Think of it as the mirror image of article syndication. Imagine yourself with a network of talented writers and subject matter experts. When you need content, you simply send an email to your network of contributors laying out what you are looking for and when you would like it.

Approach it like building an article marketing syndicate, and keep adding talented writers looking for exposure. You won't have to worry about where to find guest posters or whether the posts will be appropriate.

Allowing guest posts is easy, getting good writers to submit guest posts isn't. :-)

If you create a contact page for your site (for example with Fast Secure Contact Form plug in) people can contact you and offer you their guest posts.

For actually publishing the posts in my blog, I've created a new user (in the Users section in the WP dashboard) named Guest, and when I get the guest posts (usually in doc or txt or html format) I just create the post myself, rather than give guests access to my admin.

The guest posts should be in your niche and be sure that you don't just let people link to any spammy sites that are not related to your niche at all.

You can enable guest post on your blog. They can register and create guest posts which require approval from admin. Below are the steps to do so:
STEP1: Login to your blog with admin user.

STEP2: Go to Settings-->General, then select the check box against
Anyone can register, this will enable the registration on your
site and select Contributor from the drop down list against
the "New user default role", this will make sure that people
who register will have a role of only contributor. Now save
the settings. They cannot do anything else other than posting
    article for review.

STEP3: Provide a link on your header menu for Register and Login
    Register link:
    http://YourSite/wp-login.php?action=register

    Login Link:
    http://YourSite/wp-login.php

STEP4: That's all, you are done. Now users can register and write
    guest posts.

First make a page on your blog and name it like 'Submit a Guest Post'. 'Write for Us'. Than promote it to the guest blogging website where you ask others to submit post to you..

You can create a separate page on your blog that invites your visitors to participate in guest blogging.

Maybe do some guest blogging yourself and get more eyes on your blog which in turn get emails requesting that other guest posters guest post on your own blog.

They are many ways to receive guest posts and am sure many other in this thread shared their ideas and solutions
