Is it better to have a network of sites?

Hi guys

just wondering about something,

I have an idea for a website or websites in the funny niche. I want to set it up blog styles with posts and archives and am wondering if it is better to throw all the content into one website or if I should grow a network of sites?

The best example I could give would be the I Can Has Cheezburger? - Lolcats n Funny Pictures - funny pictures - Cheezburger site and its other sites within its network.

Like I noticed they actually mix it up so its a good example. Some of the stuff they have all on the main site and other stuff in their network that is completely different they keep on separate domains.

What would be the best?

Basically the idea without giving it away is something funny in a certain place, so fort example it could be dogs, and cats... thats really a bad example, but I think you get it...

Thanks

    Build 1 site.

Having a network of sites is a lost cause.

Yes, starting with single site is a good idea and you can expand more sites to the network in future depends on the growth of the main site

The dilemma is that like most of the funny/lol/cult scene online, the niches are like niches within niches and they kind of stand out on their own much better then they do mixed.

So if I where to build one site i'd obviously need to use a domain name that covers the main sections and then obviously link to the other sections in the top or side bar right?

The other question then is... and dont tease me, lol. I actually like to use blogger, so is there a way to set something like this up on blogger?

    Just my personal experience:
It is hard to monetise LOL type sites.
The traffic is good, but the CTR/conversion is low somehow.

Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.

Agree also, however this is a fairly untouched lol category online yet the subjects have made people laugh for decades.

The great thing about sites like this is that you can virtually start them instantly and with a low budget, hence testing to see if it will work or not does not cost you much and in my opinion, totally worth the risk.

It is definately better, but each one needs to be big. Google loves large sites that are updated often. The social interaction on the sites you mentioned is a huge factor.

I would agree with all of the above. Build one good site and focus on that. Don't get distracted by endless possibilities... that's the hard part.

Start with one site and use it to experiment. If that site is successful, scale it up.

I think you should have a network of sites, and each site in a different IP. You can gt it with a dedicated server. Then you can interlink sites to generate link juice as well.

I think it depends on if you can keep up with a network of sites. Lots of work there.

You can leverage your efforts better with just one site, but if you have a big staff of people that can add content and promote many sites then that could be beneficial because you could use each of the sites to get traffic to the others.

    What?

    Dude, seriously?

Should I have one site or a lot of sites? How can I make this work with blogger?

    Man.....

Just build ONE site, and focus on that. Add new content daily, shoot videos, do podcasts.

Yes, its been said, but one big site.

I rank well on Google for dozens of unrelated key phrases.

I think Google's new love is regularly updated authority type sites.

When I started I built a network of sites for women. I jumped right in and built one on relationships, health, make money, weddings, beauty, going green...you name it I probably had it.

I would not repeat that for sure.
