Cheated and broke even

Hi Warriors.
3 months ago I purchased my first hosting account and domian name and had this huge dream of becoming millionaire in less than a year using Amazon affiliate, although I didn't wanted to go to deep in it so I purchased a debit-card with about 150$.In less than a month I though "It might take longer then a week to hit the 1,000,000 mark" but I still belived on my dream.
After 2 months I have spened about 100$,I knew, there is money out there but it is hard to get it,I got maybe 5$ from amazon.I started looking for other ways to make money online but everywhere I looked was either harder then running a website or just had little money in it.After thinking my brain out I decided to sell my website,it had some nice traffic and it was well desinged,it had PR 0 but I've seen worst website going for some high amounts so I listed my website on Flippa. My reserved price was 85$ and I got only 1 bid of 50$,on the end of sale I offered the buyer to buy my website for 75$ and he accepted the offer, however there are a lot of fees with Flippa and I found myself getting only 54$.than I went to fiverr and I offered my services as a Wordpress blog builder,I got 64$ and by doing so I broke even,I keep getting some orders with fiverr.although right now I have 9months of hosting with no domian or website.
What should I do next?

  • Sorry to hear about your problems. Perhaps your dream of becoming a millionaire in a year is unrealistic but don't give up on earning a living

    • Hey, you have made money online!

Many have been at this for years and have not made a single dollar, so your doing something right.

It was a bit hard to read you post, not many paragraphs there

But I say stick with one of the methods that worked for you and just scale it up and keep working at it.

      Good Luck, Mike

You should start adjusting your dreams to reality first. A millionaire in less than a year probably isn't going to happen.

If you want long term success, build a long term business and grow it. Would you rather keep your dream of huge money fast or reach a goal of making an increasing amount of money online by doing the work required?

There really aren't any blueprints (magic buttons).
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I don't think Amazon is the way forward. Their cookie length is so small. They are so mean and will close your account for any reason. There are much better ways to make money online than Amazon affiliates.

    • I should have made myself more clear,I gave up of this dream withing the first month.
I want to creat a long term buissness.

What else can I use than?
      Google adsense?
  • Sorry to hear that!
You can stay an affiliate, just not through amazon. There are others, such as barnes and noble affiliate network or best buy partnership program.
You can become a reseller yourself and go directly to the company of the product you were selling.
  • Isn't affiliate a little slow this days?

  • I think you are going about it the wrong way. Instead of focusing on what affiliate program to use focus on solving a problem. Then build an online presence that attracts people with that problem. Make your money by providing the solution(s) to the problem.

For example, there are a lot of people that like to grow lush vibrant flower gardens but growing healthy plants takes a little knowledge and help.

So, if you wanted to help them solve the problem of growing lush vibrant flower gardens you might start a blog with tips on how to do so.

In the blog, you could show them products that have worked for you. Put up videos of your lush, vibrant garden etc...

Recommend the best fertilizers for each type of plant through your affiliate id. Show them how testing your soil is critical to knowing what fertilizer to use, then recommend the best soil tester product as an affiliate.

You could even write a free report to get them on your list, then sell to them from your auto responder (with a valuable email course, of course). Maybe eventually you could create your own book on the topic with solutions to the top problems.

If you focus all your energies on solving that problem and getting your solution in front of people with the problem you will soon see your business growing.

(Note: naturally you would need to do that appropriate research to ensure that there are actually buyers in that market)

  • You should be focusing on what you already know versus trying to learn something new. Lets face it, you didnt make that much money but you made money. So many people don't even get to that point. If I were you, I'd build another site this time you know a little more and sell it just like before. This is exactly how I started. Build a site that cost me about $50 and sold for $150 like clockwork.

  • The 1 million in 1 year mark was just absurd.

One thing I notice about money, its the people who are actually making a lot of it, who will tell you, "thats not as easy as it sounds". I have 2 brothers who do pretty well for themselves, and if I ever told them I wanted to make 1 million in a year they would laugh at me. Then they would probably sign me in to a mental institution. One of them is making almost a half a million a year. And he'd be the first to tell me that 1 million a year, regardless of what you're doing, is damn near impossible.

Don't get me wrong. Money is everywhere. But your focus shouldn't be so much on the money. I had to bust my ass last year just to break the 6 figure mark. And most of it was offline which I personally believe is easier. But not once did I say "I want to make $10,000 this month". Instead I'd always had much more specific goals.

Like, "I want to get 20 phone calls, and sell at least 5 jobs". I knew in the back of my head that each job would be worth a couple grand, but I never really focused on the money.

Whats weird is I never really focused on other peoples problems either. I did but only in my marketing. I focused much more on my own problems, and finding rational solutions to these problems. One step of the process just so happened to be providing solutions to other peoples problems. The other 9 steps were pretty selfish. But it worked fairly well for me.

This was my basic thought process my first month doing this:

    Problem #1

    I need money.

    Problem #2

I need to sell 5 jobs this month.

    Problem #3

I need to do a lot of marketing to generate enough calls to sell those 5 jobs.

    Problem #4

I need to post lots of content on youtube, craigslist and facebook.

    Problem #5

I need to make lots of content first so I can post it on these sites.

    Problem #6

People are calling, but I'm not as good at selling as my brother.

    Problem #7

I'll just have my brother sell the work, and split commissions.

    Problem #8

I need more jobs now since I'm splitting commissions.

    Problem #9

I'll start outsourcing the content marketing part.

    Solution #1

Problem solved. Money made. I was suprised to find that it wasn't as hard as I initially expected it to be. Not when you take things 1 problem at a time, and apply solutions immediately.

Everybody should focus on their own problems. You definitely want to focus on other peoples problems too, but only when you're doing your marketing. And in the grand scheme of things, thats really just a small part of a larger system of problems.

Its definitely about solving problems though. Thats something I can guarantee. And the person who finds the solutions the quickest, usually succeeds the fastest.

  • CashCow has given you some excellent advice (as usual).

We can all wish and hope for something but you have to have a plan to achieve it. It sounds like you built a website and got traffic but then did not know how to properly monetize the traffic. So you did the first step but did not follow thru on the next steps to achieve your goals.

For your next project select something that you will follow thru the whole way. If you just start and don't finish you will not make the bucks.

Also instead of just focusing on the money think of what VALUE you can provide to people. This will really help you achieve your desires.

And it never hurts to be realistic....becoming a millionaire in one year as a newbie is not likely.
  • So you had the following:

    Unrealistic expectation:
    No real plan of action:
Lack of commitment (you quit quickly)
    Lack of real budget

And you wonder why you only 'broke even' ..

    • I will start by saing,I'm happy that I broke even,how many people dosn't?

I agree that I had unreal expection which were a result of being a new in the field, although now days I don't see myself as new but not an expert.

And I belive I had real plan action, after all I had good traffic and 300real FB likes.

About the budget,it is not huge one but it was enough to break even, after all I made real money online and I still have hosting for 9 more months!.

  • You wont make a million that quick without doing something that will allow you to make a million that quick, or without an idea worth that much

You've tried as an Amazon affiliate, whilst you can become a millionaire with it, you need years of publishing content and building up traffic to reach that status. And trust me, currently only the big boys have managed it like About, Inc and a few others. I don't know of any affiliate that has taken it this far, either because they've not wanted to, they don't have the drive or they haven't been at it this long, or maybe they don't have the funds to expand that fast...... This is one of my methods, and it's steadily growing and I'm confident if I just stick at it, I can reach that level. It's just going beyond that point where people say, "I'm satisfied now".

You've tried offering services on a platform that caps the amount you can earn heavily. You're never going to be a millionaire even if you do thousands of sales per month on fiverr. Though, it may lay a foundation for building up a project that can.

Even as a single service provider, you're going to find it hard to make even half a million without owning a company with many employees to take on either more jobs or bigger ones.

Ultimately you need a product, service or solution that you can provide to the right amount of people at the right price point to make that in a year Now some of those you can do alone but with a nice sum of money. One you can do if you get JV's onboard and do list building the right way, with a bit of luck and viral spread, such as providing a solution to a problem. Not many achieve this though, and I don't think those that did ever expected to. Like that Abs guy.

You need smaller goals for that period of time. You can earn a million, but give yourself much more time. Something like a mid 5 figure sum or low 6 figure sum within a year would be nice for someone starting out, though as usual, very unlikely because noone ever sticks at it long enough before moving on
  • It seems like you know how to build wordpress blogs and successfully sold it as a service. Why not take it up a notch from there?

Create your own website creating service, and you should create your own website for hosting your business. Expand your services to places like Warriors for Hire.

    • yeah fiverr is a good place to start as a newbie. I started earning money there using what I learned as a newbie in IM. =) I'm hustling while building my site. I have wasted some money on ppc because I don't have any experience on it. I figured as experience and knowledge grows, your income also grows. So we achieved our goal of making money online, that's a great start. All we have to do is ramp it up and constantly innovate and offer solutions. Keep it up, people here are really knowledgeable.

  • Lets see...

Imagine if you had a goal such as, "$1 million dollars by selling $300 products".

    Thats 3,333 sales a year, 278 sales a month.

Think you can make this happen for you? You should start off with selling $7 ebooks just to get a feel of what you can expect realistically in your business, and get some experience of making sales.

If you have a hard time selling $7 ebooks... how are you going to sell $300 products?
